The SF restaurants with a view are not necessarily the most romantic, also can you give us an idea of what you consider to be romantic other thatn a view. What kind of atmosphere, food, price range?

We're looking for a restaurant that has an intimate atmosphere. A restaurant where it's not too loud. We love Italian food. Price is not a major factor. If you have any more suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Faina, maybe you can help mdv with North Beach places...? I'd forego the view at dinner for great Italian in North Beach-- then head to the Mark Hopkins for drinks at Top of the Mark. Can't beat the views from the top of Nob Hill!!

RJW, you're asking the wrong person, my definition of romantic is the Tonga room
I'm not a restaurant person, most of my meals were at home. Just searched for a list of romantic restaurants on the web as today is Friday, and it's slow at work.
Sorry to mislead you!

Acquerello is a good suggestion. I'd also include Jardinere - I love their tables for two upstairs with the champaigne cooler lights built into the railing.
Another good bet is the Fifth floor - if you can swing table 1 or 2 - there are curtains that can give you a bit of privacy and make you feel as if the restaurant is serving only you.
For the more beaten path you might try Boulevard - always excellent food and a SF staple - right near the Bay.
