More help for NYC trip needed
Good morning everyone,
Well, planning for our December NYC visit is well underway. We have air, hotel, theatre and now I just need some restaurant ideas. I printed off the great 'brunch in soho' thread but we'll be celebrating the 35th anniversary of the day we met so I wonder if anyone knows some nice dinner dancing places. I'm looking for something romantic and a little dressy. Thanks for your help.

The Rainbow Room may be the only romantic, dressy dinner-dancing type place in the city. Expensive, though. I know other Fodorites have tried it - please speak up!

Oh, the Rainbow Room! We did go there once, for our 25th anniversary, and it was really special. That time we went the week before Christmas -- everyone was dressed to the nines, the orchestra had gorgeous outfits on and the 'chanteuse' changed evening gowns three or four times during the course of the evening. The food was terrible but the night was so much fun!I'm holding it as a fall-back position but surely there must be other dinner dancing places, especially during the holiday season! Maybe the big hotels?

Dinner dancing is not a big thing in NYC. There are lots of dance clubs for the younger set - but most places for the more mature folks are cabaret/show tune/light jazz sort of drinky/light dinner places. (I think it has something to do with the arcane NY laws that have very strict requirements for anyplace that alows dancing.)
Am not aware of anyplace except the rainbow room.

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely check out Chez Josephine. I wish there were still the kind of supper clubs I used to see in old movies where the men wore tuxes and the women wore slinky dresses and funny little cocktail hats and there was DANCING.
We only have a handful of dinner dancing places in Toronto too. I didn't realize it was a licencing thing -- I thought they just weren't willing to give up table space for a dancefloor.
Ah well.
