Monterey Trip Report

We enjoyed two wonderful days in Monterey last week. We stayed at the Plaza, which is located directly on Cannery Row. This was our first time to stay at this property and I was totally impressed with the entire place.

We received an early check-in (two hours) and were shown to our beautiful oceanview room. The rooms are not really large, but a nice size and the views are just beautiful from the rooms. We stayed in the Penthouse section, close to the spa. For an extra $15/pp your can have unlimited access to the rooftop jacuzzis, steam room and fitness rooms.

We changed into our swimsuite and lavished in the bromine ( not chlorine) filled spa. The water was silky and really nice. There are glass walls that give your awesome, unobstructed views of the ocean. An outdoor fireplace and very comfortable lounge chairs. We stayed here for a couple of hours, then went to change for dinner.

DD ordered room service, which was beautifully presnted on a nice tray with flowers. We headed to PG to Passionfish for dinner. Not totally impressed, but it was a nice time. I wished we would have chosen the White House again, or even Fresh Cream.

Went back and walked Cannery Row and did some shopping and a little wine tasting. Purchased some great ollallieberry wine. Back to the room to take in the ocean vistas.
Beds are feather beds and are very comfortable.

The next am we dined at the Duck Club for breakfast, which is just beautiful. Very nice breakfast and then back to the fitness center for a workout and more jazuzzi soaks. Go up here, just for the views if you don't want to pay the $15 for the facilities. It's amazing.

Headed to Carmel beach to soak up some sun and walk around Carmel. The Carmel River beach was very nice for some photos. Dinner reservations at Roy's in PG. Had a wonderful dinner here, as always. My DD finally go to hear the bagpiper play. The hibachi salmon was a huge hit as was my banana macadamia nut pie drizzled with chocolate and papaya sauce.

We sat around the proeprty a little bit, browsed through the gift shops and headed home. A very nice two days relaxing and enjoyed this beautiful part of our coast. ***kim***

Ahhhh... Sounds good!
A friend of mine just told me he's going to the Ventana Inn for his anniv in June.....
We haven't been back to that area in over 4-5yrs....we used to go for our anniv in Nov. or Mrs Kal's b'day in May but Napa/Sonoma and SF have been filling in of late.
This may be put back near the top of "The List".
Thx Kimmer.

The Ventana is VERY nice. We have had lunch there and toured the property a bit. What a retreat. My next place I'm steaking out for a meal is The Post Ranch Inn in that area.

We're off to Seaside, OR for a week, can't wait!! ***kim***

Thanks for the report Kim as we will be there in late May. Did you have an ocean view with or without the balcony? Did you see or hear the otters from inside your room ( we actually are looking forward to that)? Did you use the valet parking? Was the rooftop crowded? Thanks again.

We had the room without the balcony, didn't want to pay the extra $60 since it wsa just one night. The room includes binoculars, great for viewing the sea otters. Yes, we used the valet parking, $16 for the entire stay and the rooftop was totally all ours!!! ***kim***
