We have never never done river rafting and look forward to doing this while camping near Moab in early October. Any recommendations for half-day guided rafting tour company? We are two 60 year olds - nothing too scary - some mild rapids would be enough. Also, suggestions how to dress.

We've done a good bit of river canoeing near Moab (the 120 mile trip down the Green River thru Canyonlands to Spanish Bottom, then jetboat back to Moab on the Colorado is a great trip) and while in Moab noticed these three companies, which have been there for many years and have good reputations:

I think Tag-along and Western River do more day trips, Sheri Griffith does more longer trips thru Cataract Canyon. All should be fine though.

Note that these are free running rivers (ie, not sourced from tailwaters of a dam upstream) and in October the water levels will likely be very, very low.

Hi Juder,

There are many rafting companies in Moab and some will take you upriver for a 1/2 trip. Inflatable. 2 person kayaks are available on some of these and are lots of fun! The CO River right around Moab will fit your request.

It's cooler on the water, so you might (depending on air temps) want a long sleeved shirt and a wind breaker for warmth and sun protection, or lots of sunscreen. Also, a wide brim, material hat with a strap so it will stay on. Straw hats don't work very well. Clothing should be quick dry materials - cotton is not good and don't even think about wearing jeans. Check out REI.

They will give you a "dry bag" for your personal "stuff" and probably a lunch along the way. Water proof cameras are a very good idea.

I'll be there myself in mid-October. It's usually perfect hiking weather then.

Thanks a lot - I've researched Tagalong and WesternRiver - both have lots of information. Thanks for tips re water proof camera, hats and easy to dry clothes. Really looking forward to the whole trip.
