Moab, UTAH - anyone kayaked
Hi - we are debating between a trip to moab in mid april or the very end of october. One thing we would like to do is kayak. We don't do whitewater. I understand there are some areas we can calm water kayak. Has anyone done this? How was it? And any opinions on the weather for kayaking OR rafting during these two times. The October week actually runs into the 1st of November.
Also - anything going on in moab during those times that causes it to be overbooked?
Thanks, sue

Hi Sue,
I haven't done kayaking on the CO River in Moab, but friends have. They are young, athletic and sports oriented. They did take a dip!
For what you want, I would go in October, but end of Oct it could start to get a little cold. Water levels will be down by then, so maybe tame enough for you.
The companies I know of do kayak trips upriver from Moab and there are some very small (fun) rapids along the way. Even without the small rapids, the current is pretty strong. Of course, they have you wear life vests and helmets.
You will need to check and see if they run that late in the year.
As Enzian says, whatever you do - DON'T go the week before Easter.
Have fun!
