Michaelangelo hotel info pls?
HI,
What can you tell me about the Michaelangelo hotel please? We are coming from Land of Oz and my husband hates hotels where the words cosy and comfortable are used - he likes an upmarket experience. Can anyone tell me if it is in good nick (oh, do you use that expression - means good condition and not tired/worn looking), bathrooms luxurious, good service etc. We are also considering the Ritz or Four Seasons but could get suite at Michaelangelo (travelling with an 11 yr old too). thanks

Michelangelo - great location; attentive, understated staff; rooms large and nicely decorated; fabulous bathrooms; smaller property - nice to "come home to" after a wonderful day in NY. Beautiful lobby - european elegance. Enjoy!

We stayed at the MIchelangelo in January of this year and had a wonderful experience. Room was immaculate, bathrooms fabulous, staff very accomodating and the lobby had a lovely area to sit and regroup in, enjoy a light snack or drink and a piano player in the evenings. It was a good location and quiet. We did not have a suite, but a large room with sitting area. Our friends who we met there did have a suite and it was lovely and very roomy and not worn or tired at all, and either was our room. I would stay there again.
Last month we stayed at the Rhiga Royal and had a lovely suite - the doors that separated the bedroom from the suite were wood mullion doors, but mirrored, which was nice instead of just glass or solid door b/c it made it seem even roomier. We requested a quiet room and it was one of the quieter experiences I've had in the city, close to Michelangelo location.
Years ago we stayed at the Kimberly, which has suites, but I can not attest to if it has become 'worn'

Wish I had seen this post earlier. Just wrote you a long response on your other thread and clearly underestimated your budget. What is your budget?
The Michelangelo is very nice but the other 2 you mention are MUCH nicer. The Ritz Carlton Central Park is in an especially nice location across from Central Park and service there is top notch. I noticed the "suite" I saw at the Michelangelo is called a junior suite--no door between the sleeping area and the sitting area. Just a heads up. They also have regular suites with 2 separate rooms.
As I wrote in the other post, the Rihga Royal is $633 in Oct. (although I see it for $599 on quikbook!) due to current renovations and upgrades. If that's in your budget, it will be lovely although not sure there will be kitchens in the suites.
Trump International is worth checking. I think all their rooms are suites and you can sometimes find a good deal there. Very nice, also right at Central Park.
It makes a difference if you're looking for lots of hotel amenities (restaurant, room service, spa etc.) If you just want nice space in a nice place, there are probably some special penthouse suites in lesser hotels that would be quite wonderful.

hi mclaurie
thanks. I did see your other long post of course. Four Seasons and Ritz are too expensive.
Mmm, door between sitting room and bedroom is important, I hadn't noticed that in junior suites.
Trump looks great but $950 is too steep for us. Round the $600-700 mark is tops.
No, we don't need a lot of hotel amenities, we have NYC! So what would you recommend when you say "special penthouse suites in lesser hotels"?
thanks
