Miami/South Beach - advice on hotel- Marriott perhaps?
DH and I meeting some friends in Miami in the beginnig of August.
None of us have been here ( except the airport!) and we want to stay at a nice boutique hotel near the action but not loud enough to keep us awake at night.
May consider using our Marriott rewards too - What about South Beach Marriott - any opinions on that?
Thanks.

anne, Can you use your rewards towards the Ritz-Carlton South Beach? It is in a much better location than the Marriott South Beach.
While the MSB is a nice boutique hotel, the area is still a little sketchy to me.
What is your nightly hotel budget?
You'd be better off staying on Collins Avenue above 14th Street than staying on Ocean Drive. Ocean Drive is still a little too busy for me at night even though the Clevelander is still under renovation.
Look at hotels on Collins Avenue above 14th Street whos address is an odd number.
The Raleigh, The National, Doubletree Surfcomber, Ritz-Carlton, Delano (small white rooms), The Shore Club, The Gansavoort, The Shelburne are a few that come to mind.
If the W South Beach has opened, take a look at it.

Go Travel made some excellent suggestions. The Marriott South Beach is actually on Ocean & 2nd St., on the quieter side of Ocean Drive next to South Point. It's a cute boutique style and only a few year old. They've just redone the park down there, and the area is no more sketchy than any other. There are a couple of good restaurants there (Joe's, Prime 112, Nemo's, Devito's, etc.) It's a few blocks away from the main drag, but is easily walkable. Lincoln Road might require a cab, however. If you're driving around South Beach a good rule of thumb is to avoid Collins Ave.and Ocean Dr. Use Washington Ave. to travel North and South on the island.
