Memphis for a weekend
Hi… we are going to Memphis for a weekend. I would like feedback on a hotel. The Peabody is out of my cost range. Something costing less. I have read threads about crime in Memphis and would maybe stay out of downtown but I don’t know which areas to avoid. I’m planning on Graceland , Bass and a riverboat cruise and they are not downtown. Any suggestions?

Not sure about hotels. Do a TripAdvisor search. To be completely safe, I would avoid going out after 8:00 pm. (10:00 pm in summer). Go to famous Beale Street and ride on the historic trolley and hear the Blues (avoid Beale St. after dark); visit Shelby Farms, a 4,500-acre park with lakes, gardens, bison herd; stroll through Audubon Park with large botanical garden; Memphis is famous for BBQ, so eat at legendary Charlie Vergos Rendezvous restaurant which has been serving BBQ, ribs, and more in a downtown Memphis alley since 1948. Check out thehistoric Green Beetle tavern where BB King, Hank Williams, Elvis, and Bennie Goodman hung out; Stax Museum of American Soul Music—self-proclaimed birthplace of Soul music and Sun Studios—self-proclaimed birthplace of Rock n’ Roll.
