memphis airport to downtown

Am planning to be in Memphis in November, not sure to stay around airport or downtown. It would be our first trip to Memphis. Clarion Hotel offers free shuttle to Graceland and terminal. Is it expensive to get to downtown area? Is one day enough to be in Memphis? Thanks for your time.

I would spend a couple of day in Memphis and would not stay near the airport. It's a hike to downtown. I would give Memphis 2 days. Mud Island is a nice afternoon trip.

Graceland? If you must.

Westin is opening a new hotel downtown near Beale St. Stay there and visit The Peabody for a drink. Check out the ducks there too. Walk across the street and have lunch at The Rendevous. You can check out Mud Island, Beale St., Memphis BBQ and shop around Germantwown...........

Looks like you've already made your decision, but just wanted to chime in that I totally agree. There's not much you'd want to see around the airport; downtown is definitely a better choice.

Graceland is kind of fun. If you love Elvis, you'll love it. Otherwise, it's a fun experience to do... once.

We go to Memphis fairly often and have stayed in lots of the downtown hotels. Our current favorite is the Marriott Residence Inn. Each room has a full kitchen and they have free breakfasts that are really great. It's also within walking distance of the Peabody, Beale Street, etc. I'm anxious to give the Westin a try, but I've heard it's pricey - maybe more than other downtown hotels.
