Mauna Kea or Mauna Lani?

My husband and I will be on the Big Island in late June. We presently have reservations at the Four Seasons for four nights. My husband would like for us to shorten our stay at the Four Seasons to 3nights and add a night at Mauna Kea or Mauna Lani because of the great beaches. (our understanding is that four seasons doesn't have a good beach). My question is if you could spend one night at Mauna Kea or Mauna Lani, what would you choose? We really don't mind breaking up our stay so that's not an issue. Has anyone stayed at both properties and which is better? We will be traveling for our 16th wedding anniversary with no kids.

Thanks so much for your replys.

Cindy

Mauna Kea has a better beach than Mauna Lanai Bay or 4S

Mauna Kea has far superior beach, but last time we were there the rooms and some public areas needed updating. Mauna Lani has better facilities and service, an okay beach but very good snorkeling (near condos).

I triple the Mauna Kea vote. Have stayed at all three & Mauna Kea has the best beach by far. FS has best food & service, ML has gorgeous lava shorelines (not good 4 swimming) and MK has a breathtaking beach but the hotel is a little bit dated (not that that's a bad thing).

Cindy, I think you should stay at least TWO nights at the alternate hotel. Certainly it couldn't "break the bank" that much, could it, and after traveling all that distance? Anyway, on another note, I would recommend the Hapuna Prince which is right next door to the Mauna Kea, has a GREAT beach and is newer and much nicer than the other two (rooms at the Mauna Kea are quite UNDERWHELMING, to say the least!!).
