Maui - Staying at the Grand Wailea, Mistake?
For my honeymoon I'm staying at the Grand Wailea. After reading some of these postings I'm worried that I made the wrong decision between GW at Four Seasons. We're going in October, will there be a lot of kids overuning the resort? Should i switch to the Four Seasons?
Please advise.

We just got back from the GW and it did seem very family oriented. Although there were plenty of honeymooners and business conferences also. However, I don't think you'd be unhappy with it unless you really detest children. You won't be detaching wet children from your legs constantly. We have a 12yo daughter and spent most of our time at the "kids pool" which is HUGE! The kids pool was overrun with kids and parents, but the GW does have an adults only pool as well. The FS is more sedate and grown-up oriented - their spa recently topped the GW in Traveller magazine. Either one you pick, you can't lose. They are very close so you can walk to either property for lunch or dinner. In a nutshell, I'd describe the GW as a "WOW!" and the FS as an "Aaaaah!"

I don't think you will regret your decision. The GW is a beautiful property. The only place overun with
kids is the activity pool. The adult
pool is very calm. The grounds, lobby
and restaurants will make up for the
kids you will run into. You'll have
a great time - it's a beautify resort.

Tim,
My husband and I stayed at the Grand Wailea last June. We were concerned about the same problem with too many kids. We were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have any problem. There were plenty of children at the lagoon style pools but we spent most of our time at the adult pool. It was wonderful! Very quiet and relaxing. The grounds are beautiful. I loved to sit in the lobby area late afternoons. It was very peaceful which was surprising considering how large this resort is and how many people stay there.
We went over to the Four Seasons a couple of times to compare and I must say just looking at it we were disappointed. It seemed boring to me and a little stuffy. Now, I have not stayed there so this is just a first impression.
I don't think you will be disappointed with the Grand Wailea. Enjoy your honeymoon!

Remember, with the right attitude there are no mistakes in Hawaii. However, my husband a few years back wanted the Grand and I wanted 4S so we booked 5 nights at each starting with the Grand, going to Hana for 3 glorious nights and returning to 4S....which is now the only hotel he chooses to stay on Maui....you might take this as an opportunity to try both - depending on any nights free etc. 4S will always be our favorite, but why not try both if you can! moving next door takes no time with bellhops and valet guys and gals! Happy honeymoon

I notice that the only people who seem to knock the FS are the ones who stayed somewhere ELSE, then strolled past the FS to try to confirm their preconceived notions of why they wouldn't have liked it anyway.
Very rarely does someone stay at the FS, then other places on Maui, and still knock the FS.
