Maui Restaurants

My husband and I are going to Maui next month, staying at the Westin. Our package includes buffet breakfast. Any suggestions for dinner? We will probably want a variety (some casual, some nicer) without driving a long way every night. Any comments on the restaurants at the Westin? I appreciate any tips that anyone may have!

I'm not sure about restaurants at the Westin, but we ate at the Hula Grill which is in Whaler's Village (just down the beach from you). You can choose to sit in either their barefoot bar which is more casual or in their main dining area. We truly enjoyed our experience here- live band, good food and wine, and not as pricey or stuffy as some other Maui restaurants. I've heard that I'o and Pacifico in Lahaina are great for a fine dining experience.

Hi, we stayed at the Westin for our Honeymoon and really liked it, even though most of the posts on it here are somewhat negative. I know they have just done a renovation of the rooms. The rooms in the Beach tower are 40% larger than the ocean tower so you should ask to see both and then you decide! We ate at Ono's at the hotel for kunch but no dinners there as we like to get out and explore. Pacifico in Lahaina is excellent!! I just sent a friend there, too and she loved it. Next door to the Westin in Whalers Village is Hula Grill - we had lunch and happy hour here - right on the sand - great place!! Also, Leilanis on the beach next door ws good too for casual meals. Have a great Trip - I am jelous!!

Hi Cindyd: Mamas fish house is a must! It is fine dining on the beach and has the best fish I ever had. Try their web site; www.mamasfishhouse.com.

We stayed in south Maui, but had a lot of fun at the Hula Grill. Make a reservation though, we waited (albeit pleasantly) at the bar for almost an hour. Great drinks, fun, noisy, casual atmosphere. Part of what drew me there though was being able to eat outside with your feet in the sand...be forewarned though, that this is not the wonderfully soft sand you will be sinking your feet into all over the island--it feels like kids sandbox sand, it's pretty rough and dirty feeling, and we were kinda disappointed in that regard. The food was fine, pretty tasty, not necessarily spectacular, but all in all we really did have a great time.

love

Yes to Hula Grill, it's fun and touristy and wonderfully kitchy. There are certainties in life...ours for dining in Maui are, Spago, Nick's, Hula, Charlies for bfast in Paia, Halliimaile General Store for their tuna/salmon tower app----try to fit in Sansie, Roy's, David Paul's,,,,,if we've hit this list, then we're ready to branch out!!! As we hope to soon. Surely miss A Pacific Cafe, when it was in its glory, hope to recapture the magic in Kauai. Happy Trails!

My husband I were just in Maui and we enjoyed our dinner at Cafe Savauge in Lahina town. If you get there before 6:30 they have a great price fixed special. We aslo had dinner at Mama's I enjoyed our meal at Cafe Savauge just as much and it is much closer to where you will be staying. Enjoy!

My husband and I also just returned from Maui and loved Mama's Fish House (lunch is a better bet--entrees were $27-$36, can't imagine dinner prices), but it was wonderful food and one of the best views we saw. We also loved Sansei for sushi (they have 25% off sushi and appetizers from 5:30-6 pm daily, but they fill up quick) and the Feast at Lele for a luau. We found a couple of local treasures that were very reasonable and had amazing food--the Okazuya Deli (just a couple of minutes north of where you're staying) for great plate lunches and a lot of variety, and the Honolua Store on the golf course in Kapalua, which has a deli counter and hot plate lunches in the back (yummy chicken katsu and fish and chips for around $4-$6). It's great to get carry out from either place and take it back to your place or to a great beach spot. We also really like Maui Tacos--very fresh Mexican food at low prices (great fish tacos). Have a wonderful time and happy eating!

Your "somewhere nice" pick could be (should be, hee) Roy's.
We are leaving in two months for the 'second' portion of our honeymoon, and we can't wait to be at Roy's. Absolultely the best, thank heavens there are several stateside now.
Bon Appetite and Happy Honeymooning!

Some of my favorites in west Maui (all are within approx. 15 minute or less drive from the Westin):
I'O or Pacific'O in Lahaina
Hula Grill in Kaanapali
Roy's in Kahana
Sansei in Kapalua
