Maui No Air Conditioning?

Has anyone stayed oceanfront in Kihei/Wailea with no air conditioning in late May? Is it bearable?

The average highs and lows during May are 85 and 65 degrees (F). You may count on an ocean breeze. If you're from West Texas that may be bone-chilling.

I stayed in May of 96 in Kihei and it was unseasonably humid according to the locals. We had air in our hotel, but it didn't work very well. I found that by the end of one week I adjusted but the first couple of nights were uncomfortable. We just swam alot instead, and spent longer days at the beach, etc...

May will probably OK but you'd be sweltering in August.

We worried about this too. I think it depends somewhat on the configuration of the room...We rented a stand-alone house in Makena, which is supposed to be the hottest part of Maui, in September. But with louvers all around the 4 sides of the bedroom, it was very pleasant sleeping at night - even needed blankets once or twice! I'd think a condo or hotel room would not be able to take advantage of that airflow on all sides.

Much depends on your own level of comfort. We have visited Kihei in April, July , August and November. The only time we used the air was in the car on the way to the airport.
