South Maui oceanfront condos with AC?

Hi everyone,

Starting to look into places to stay on Maui next August.... I'm sure we want to stay in South Maui during this trip. I am hoping to stay at a nice resort in Wailea for the entire time, but don't know yet exactly what the finances will allow If money is tighter, then we'll probably do a condo for part of the time and then relax at a resort for a few nights. If the money is better, then it's resort living for the whole time!

I would like to start looking into condos (just for me and DH so 1 BR is fine)in South Maui, just in case. I would like to stay in Wailea or Kihei, and want:
* to be ocean-front on a swimming/snorkeling beach
* have A/C
* a pool
* have clean, updated, modern decor.
I really would like an awesome ocean view from the lanai for breakfasts

Some things that I don't need, but would be nice to have would be high speed wireless internet access and a washer and dryer. Looking for anywhere from $100-$200/night.

I have looked at Kihei Surfside, Sugar Beach, Maui Kai, etc....(www.crhmaui.com and www.vrbo.com) but would love some personal recommendations.

Thanks so much!

Maui Kai is NOT A/C in the condo units, only the 'hotel'units (smaller-bedroom/bath only).
That said, Room 201 has a killer view and good snorkeling just below your lanai! I think we paid $189/night in July '05.

The Mahana which is next to the Maui Kai has air conditioning. My daughter and her boyfriend are staying in a 12th floor studio in January. The views look amazing. The owners also have a one bedroom-check out VRBO #45021. The Mahana gets good reviews although obviously each condo is different. There seems to be a good selection on Vrbo if you book early. I can post back after her trip but hopefully you will have booked someplace by then.

Those names get confusing, all those Hales and Kais etc

Maui Kai and The Mahana are in fact neighbours and north of Kaanapali (and MK does have AC). So neither fits the Kihei/Wailea criterion.

Good hunting

Sugar Beach is nice for looking, but the water is very suspect. Drainage issues.

pspercy - Beachgirl did mention Wailea so at first I wasn't going to recommend the Mahana. But then she mentioned Maui Kai so I figured she was looking at other locations. Since we are on the subject, how good is the snorkeling right in front of the Mahana? I was under the impression that other areas were better.

Thanks, everyone, I will look into these suggestions.

The Mahana looks great, maybe a couple nights there, and then South Maui for the remainder in a resort?

Anyways, I have plenty of time to plan and save, so feel free to keep the suggestions coming! Thanks again.

beachgirl86: Major CORRECTION of my above post.

In July, we stayed in West Maui at Maui Kai for 5 nights....it was GREAT and A/C!!!

Afterwards, we went to MANA Kai in SOUTH Maui....This is the one referred to in the above post!

I got confused, I guess because you said south and Maui Kai in your post, but Maui Kai is in West Maui. I highly recommend it!

Sorry for the confusion!

Paula, I didn't snorkel in front of Mahana or Maui Kai, we had weather warnings and I'm super cautious in Hawaii !

There was a local guy spearfishing several evenings so I guess there's decent size fish to see as long as you beat him to it
