I really need help with some night life ideas for our upcoming trip VERY soon. The only thing booked so far is the Old Lahaina Luau. Also want to do the Friday night Art Walk in Lahaina. Anyone with suggestions of things for a couple to do? We will be there for 12 nights. Thanks!

Wow!....12 nights??? There really is VERY little night life on Maui, with the exception of the luaus and whatever might be happening at your particular hotel. What little there is will be in Lahaina.

Jillian, Lahaina has some tacky but fun shopping, and the shops stay open fairly late. Also in Lahaina is the fantastic Feast at Lele...I highly recommend it! It starts at sunset. We did a luau once on Kauai but the Feast at Lele in Maui is better than a luau, in my opinion.

Dinner and a walk on the beach at night is fun.

It also depends on what you want to do in terms of night life. If you're looking for bars or clubs or things like that, then you're out of luck. Your nightlife is pretty much limited to whatever is going on at your hotel or other hotels, and just hanging out at the restaurants that are open late. Some of the hotels might have shows or luaus going on. Or you can do strolls on the beach as well. That's pretty much it.

Find out if Mulligan's is having Wailea Nights while you are there. They used to have it weekly, featuring music by HAPA. It was the highlight of our last trip to Maui! They have a website.

As othered mentioned, there is not much nightlife on Maui. Folks turn in early and get up with the sun. Having said that, we spent one late evening strolling the beach in the moonlight which was lovely. It so DARK at night. Our hotel also had musical performers at the pool bar so we did that one evening.

There is much nightlife here on Maui--you just need to know where to look. The local music scene is very big, and on any given night you can find entertainment ranging from jazz to techno to reggae. Depending on when you are here you might also catch one of the many theater or dance grups that make their way here throughout the the year and perform at the MACC, or there might be a ho`olaulea. The Festival of Canoes is the last two weeks of May and during this time there is enterainment and events happening nightly, ending with huge weekend of happenings the last weekend in May.
I'm from L.A. and I know from good nightlife--I have never once felt deprived in my options here on Maui.

You asked this question in another thread, and got some responses. Where you are staying and when will you'll be here? What kind of things do you like?

In answer to the questions, we will be staying at the Grand Wailea starting on May 15. As far as what we like to do, well, we don't go out at night at all at home (other than to dinner) because we have been working far too much and vacationing not at all. I'm trying to get ideas of what others do in Maui on vacation. Do people really just eat dinner and go to bed?

We really enjoyed Warren and Annabelles Magic Show in Lahaina.

Going to dinner at some of the high end restaurants can be an event in itsef, Warren and Annabells was a lot of fun! Old Lahina Luau was very good when we went in 2003, have a good trip!

Ulalena (sp) in Lahaina is great, stirring drumming too.

Take a booze cruise (aka sunset cruise), the setting sun on the west Maui mountains brings out all the colours in the rocks and you might be escorted by flying-fish like we were on one trip. It's magic.

The Hyatt has astronomy nights (Thursdays I think). Take advantage of the clear skies.

Depending upon where you're staying, there may be entertainment there or perhaps a local beach walk / boardwalk.
Whaler's Village has evening shows, one night we saw a Japanese (teen) group doing traditional music, it was very good indeed.

If you think Maui turns in early try Kauai LOL.

Depends on what time you eat dinner! We just got home from dinner and will probably turn in soon (it is 11--is that early?) lol

Many people who visit here start their days off very early and run all day long, so by evening they are ready to crash. Some people never reset their internal clocks--that 6 hour difference from the east coast can have a negative effect on one's ability to appreciate the nightlife.

But if you want nightlight, we've got it. Close to Wailea you have many choices. Mulligans is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike--live music every night ranging from gypsy jazz to traditional celtic and anything in between. I highly recommend Monday and Tuesday nights, although Sats are good too, and Thurs and Fri are ususally Wailea nights. Actually any night is a good night for Mulligans!

There is Tsunami at the Grand Wailea if you are into techno/house/trance dance stuff. Botero Bar, also at your hotel has more subdued, acoustic entertaiment earlier in the evening. Capishce? has jazz on weekends. Longhi's has local favorite Crazy Fingers on Sat nights.

Up in Kihei entertainment options run from jazz at Yorman's in north Kihei (Yorman also does Tableside Chef's--private dining on the beach) to a quiet stroll on the beach in south Kihei. In between you have Willie K at Hapa's on Monday night (a must-do), everything from blues to karaoke to Jawaiian and local sounds at the various night spots in Kalama Village, where there is a martini bar, the Tiki Lounge, and several other restaurants and clubs. Late night noshing at Sansei, Horitos, Bocalino, Isana; dancing at Bocalino, Hapa's; comedy on Friday nights at Bada Bing--OK, it is supposed to be comedy, but I personally do not find them to funny--but you get the idea.

I suggest you pick up a MauiTime Weekly when you get here and see what's happening while you are here.

Lot's of other stuff to do up in Lahaina, such as `Ulalena. Paradice Bluz is the hotspot in Lahaina--Thursday night is great with Joe Cano's Santana Band, but they don't go on until 10, and I can't stay out that late on a school night--the drive back from Lahaina is a bear that late!

My favorite nighttime actvity is still some quiet time down on the beach, just the two of us. Nothing like the sound of the surf, the stars, the moon shimmering on the water. It is a great way to end the day!

Recommend Warren and Annabel's magic show. Sunday nights at Mulligans (Wailea) is Irish music.

Last year we took a stroll along the beachfront in Kaanapali. At Kaanapali Beach hotel they had a singer by the pool. He was great and I am not that found of Hawaiian music. We plan to return this year.
