Maui Kai
My husband and I are planning a trip to Maui in late May and I found that the Maui Kai is offering a studio for $145 a night, plus the sixth night free. I've never been to Hawaii. For those of you that have and may have stayed at the Maui Kai, do you think this is a good deal? Has anyone seen or stayed in one of their studios?

I've never stayed at the Maui Kai, but have driven past many times - walked around the property once. It's nothing to look at from the outside, but I understand the units are nice. It's very close to the water! Very narrow beach right in front of building, but nicer next door. Pool in on other side of building, so no view. From what I've seen & read, the rate you got seems pretty good.

We always stay at the Maui Kai, 15 times so far. It's an older building buit each unit is very nice, we perfer #402. It has everything. Beach chairs & towels, umbrellas, hairdryer, complete kitchen, daily maid service, barbecues available by the pool or cook your dinner and take it to your lani for a romantic sunset dinner, you name it. You can't beat the view. Guest are mostly adults so it's nice and quite, no kids jumping in the pool when you want to relax. The staff is terrific. Grocery store & shops within walking distance. Embesy Suite next store has a nice pool side patio to have dinner or snack if you don't feel like cooking. You can't beat the price.

We are also looking at Maui Kai for a stay next December.
Abert-when you rent 402 is it directly from the owner and do they have a website? Also, if you were there in the winter, did you see whales from the lanai?
Would appreciate any further info on Maui Kai. Thanks!

Hello 2sweets: Sorry it's taken so long to respond to your request about Maui Kai. Yes, you have an terrific view of the best whale show in town. We spend most of our days on the Lani watching these magnificent mammals. They come late October until March. We always go in Jan. There is a web site - MauiKai.com, but we rent from the owners. We think it is a very good deal. All units have a water front views. There are studios,1 & 2 bedrooms. All units are nice, but if you get one that's not bright & cherry ask for another, staff is most accommodating. No matter where you stay, it will be terrific, It's Maui!

Thanks Abert. We did end up renting a unit at Maui Kai for the week of Christmas. We rented #306-a studio-directly from the owners. I am so looking forward to sitting on the lanai, sipping a Mai Tai and watching the whales!!
