Maui: Fairmount Kea Lani Moutain View

Hi Everyone, I'm hoping those who have travelled to Maui and stayed at the Kea Lani can give me some advice. My fiance and I are planning to stay at the Kea Lani for our honeymoon this September. When we met with our travel agent, she quoted us a price of 1971/person incl air, car, and luau tickets. That price is for a mountain view room. For an ocean view room, the price goes up to 2191/person. I know that I don't want a garden view room and a mountain view is just fine with me. The problem is that when I called the hotel, they told me that all I can do is request a mountain view room but if it's not available, we may get a garden view room. Should I suck it up and pay for the ocean view room to ensure that I get a nice view? Thanks for any responses!

If you can swing the extra cash, go for a water view room...the garden and moutain view rooms at Kea Lani (my favorit hotel inthe world!)can (not always) look out over the parking lot to the mountains beyond. All the rooms have huge lanais...if you want to sit out in the evening and enjoy the view and a drink, you might be disappointed with a "bvack" view room. If on the other hand you don't plan to spend any time sitting out on the lanai, you may be happier to save the money -- the rooms are all the same.

Also, skip the luau thing unless you are really into cheesy fake Las Vegas style hula shows and a buffet...

Thanks for your reply! I will definitely take what you said into consideration. Now, we'll just have to decide whether or not or budget will let us spend that extra $400. A friend's coworker is actually staying at the Kea Lani right now with an ocean view. She says that it's beautiful except for the construction going on!

Elisa: My husband and I are also planning to stay at the Kea Lani in September and have purchased the Mountain View Suite. If possible, do you have more information about the "construction"? What is it and will it be complete before September? Any info would be appreciated.

Elisa, how many nights (seven?) are included in your package, and how far are you flying? I'm just curious about how competitive your deal is. I know of a couple alternative packages which might be similar or better.

Hi Jane! I was a bit concerned when I heard about the construction. I called the Kea Lani last night and was told that there was construction in the lobby that is supposed to be done this week. Next to the hotel, there's a big hole being dug. The receptionist told me that condos are being built there but isn't scheduled to begin until next year and to be done in 2 years. Hope this helps and that they're right!

Jane, we are flying from Illinios and planning on staying for 6 nights. Any info would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

Elisa - I also called the Kea Lani and was told the construction was across the street. When I told the reservationist that I would be visiting in September she said she would make a note to give us a room away from the construction. I, too, hope they are good on their word. I know the view isn't "everything", however, I was hoping for a little more than a bulldozer to look at from my room.

Good Grief!! I originally planned to stay at the Rennaisance and read about construction. I switched to Kea Lani at a greater expense. I hope the construction is not too loud. I'm going on May 22.

Honeymoon in July

We're planning on staying at KL for our honeymoon in July and have reserved a deluxe oceanview room. I spoke to the staff and was told that there was some impact to guests in terms of view. No complaints so far for noise as the work is only beginning and it is mostly truck traffic. Has anyone stayed there recently? Also, how far is the main hotel from the beach? The pictures on the website make it look like a distance compared to hotels that I've stayed at in Mexico, Bahamas, and VI. Thanks.

Does anyone know how far away the construction is from the hotel. I mean how far back in the hotel set from the road? I wonder how bad the truck traffic is?

Oh Boy! I am going to be at KL on the 8th of May. I am staying in the Kilohana suite, which is supposed to be a corner suite. My agent told me nothing of constuction that might block my view or be very noisy. Anyone been there this month and can advise thanks
