Maui & Waikiki restaurant reservations. Need advice

Hubby & I will be on Maui (Ka'anapali) the 10-15th, should I be calling restaurants for reservations now or can I wait until we get to the island and have the conceirge do it? Same question for Waikiki from the 15th-18th! Also, would appreciate 3 top restaurant choices for both lunch and dinner at both locations. Really getting excited now that the holiday hubbub is over. Appreciate all replies.

Must do The Waterfront restaurant in Ma'alea if you like seafood, also Roy's for great seafood. Two locations.

Well, I simply do not go to Maui without having a lite dish at Le' Hula Grille' It's just plain fun. Wontons, pizza, fish and chips, all fun. And we also by the mandatory tshirt to keep the memory alive - great at sunset with live entertainment....that's outdoor part, never went inside. David Pauls has always been great although we didnt make it their this trip. We love Haillimaile General Store. Charlies in Paia if you're in the area is great for bfast. Spago - love thier porkchop, sorry Nick's has fallen off our list, not in your neighborhood anyway. Roy's is good. I would make reservations at David Pauls and let the rest fall into place. Aloha

We just got back yesterday afternoon from Lanai and Maui. We very much enjoyed our meals in Henry Clay's at the Hotel Lanai--husband enjoyed
the ribs and shrimp, and I enjoyed the ravioli and rotisserie chicken.
Husband enjoyed his lunch at Pele's more than dinner--good small selection
of wine at grocery store next door. Husband also enjoyed breakfast and
lunch at Blue Ginger. We had pupus at the Challenge at Manele Clubhouse
instead of dinner one night--beautiful view but the chicken satay was just
so-so. Nice surprises were the free afternoon tea at the Lodge, and the
senior center Christmas day dinner which was open to all (husband brought
plate of turkey, stuffing, gravy, vegies and yummy oatmeal cookie back to
the room for me with everyone's best wishes). Maui Prince brunch is
wonderful--especially the marinated fern greens (pohole?). La Creperie has
closed, but, we had a decent dinner around the corner at Sala Thai in Kihei
with the entertainment card coupon (I thought that the cornish game hen was
a bit salty, but, husband liked it; the asparagus chicken soup was very
soothing). Surprise was the terrific live band next door. In Makawao, the
Cafe O'Lei has changed owners and name changed so we didn't try it. We
picked up good marinated chicken and steak to cook in Hana at Rodeo grocery
store in Makawao and got to taste the yummy vanilla custard cream puff at
the bakery (the very last one at 10:30 a.m.--they asked us if we had called
ahead to reserve!). The Kula Lodge vegetarian eggs benedict are
unbelieveably good. Mana health food store in Paia is incredible--for those
who are lactose intolerant, they have yummy vegan chocolate layer cake,
carrot cake with "cream cheese" frosting and chocolate cookies. Several of
the banana bread we picked up on the way to Hana are also made without milk
or butter. Waterfront was OK, but, they wouldn't accept our gold card for
the half off second entree discount (we called the gold card folks and they
are going to reimburse us the $30 cost). Mama's was very expensive ($150
for lunch for 1 planter's punch, 1 ice tea, 2 fish entrees, 1 sorbet, and 1
chocolate pie), but delicious and great way to end our vacation--the best
meal we had on Maui. Your suggestion for taking food to Hana worked out
great. Besides the marinated meat we picked up in Makawao at Rodeo grocery
store, we also picked up fruits and vegies at Maui Pineapple Co next door to
Hallimaile General Store. and Mana grocery store in Paia. My fish lunch
special at Haliimaile General Store was very good. And we ate at Cafe
Sauvage with a 2 for the price of 1 coupon we got with our activity world
tickets to Warren and Annabell's (we were glad that we arrived late and
missed much of the Annabell portion)--husband enjoyed his shrimp dish there.
So...best meal on Lanai was at Henry Clay's. Best meal on Maui was Mama's.
Best breakfast was Maui Prince with a close second from Kula Lodge. Best
dessert was the cream puff in Makawao with a close second with the chocolate
pie from Mama's. Best bargain meal was a picnic of marinated chicken breast
and avocado sandwich (chicken left over from night before), clementines, and
banana bread which we ate by a waterfall in Hana.

P.S.--Although we were there during the very busy holiday season, we only made advance reservations for Henry Clay's (for the first night), the Waterfront, Mama's and Cafe Sauvage (we had to cancel our reservations to Sarrento's since I came down with the flu!). If you want to go to a luau--get reservations now.
