Maui and the Big Island

Plan to travel to Maui and BI for the first time in July/August with children ages 7 and 9. Will likely stay at Westin or Grand Wailea in Maui and looking for contrast when we go to the BI. Can anyone recommend where to stay there?

For contrast, I would suggest staying in the Volcano area of the BI. Nothing like that on Maui! There are several lodges and B&B's to choose from. Have fun!

7 and 9 year olds will LOVE the Hilton Waikoloa. Adults seem to have mixed opinions, but its kid heaven!!!! Waterslides, easy on site snorkeling (hey, far from the best, but good for that age kids) Dolphins on site to watch all the time (even if you don't want to pay all that $$$ for the 'experience') Also, price range is much less than Grand Wailea. You can generally get rooms in the low 200 range. Great boogie boarding beach is 5 miles up the road (Hapuna Beach). WITH kids, I thinks its your best BI bet.

OOPPS -- just realized you were looking for Contrast--scratch the Hilton Waikloa if you are looking for something different than the Grand Wailea.
