Maui
On Maui for eight nights in June. 3 nights we will stay near Wailuku because we are there for meetings.
We like to hike, want to see waterfalls, Volcano's and walk on the beach. Where on the island would you recommend we stay for the other nights?
For the days we have meetings in Wailuku what is close? I have no concept of distance and time of travel. Can I stay at a beach resort near Wailluku or is everything close enough it doesn't matter.
Island help please!
I appreciate any feedback.

i like napali point resort if you like quiet. great kitchen, great view...there is one restaurant within walking distance but we spent most evenings cooking at "home" so we could enjoy the balcony. great little cove there that is great for snorkeling with the turtles. good beach a short walk away. check on vrbo. but, not the area you want if you want a large selection of shopping or restaurants/bars

Wailuku is mainly government buildings and local residences. (Do see Iao Valley there.) I'd stay in South Maui (Kihei and Wailea) and 'commute' to Wailuku. It's 20 minutes across the valley on four-lane highway.
West Maui is more removed. Do take a day to drive into West Maui and up to piney Kapalua, stopping a Lahaina Town (former whaling port now gussied up for tourists).
Maui's volcano is the semi-dormant Haleakala. You can hike into it. You'll see waterfalls along the Road to Hana. You access both of these from Kahului.
All of Maui's top hotels are in Wailea except the Ritz in Kapalua. If you want a condo, that makes more sense for a full week's stay.
June will have lots of families from the mainland visiting Maui. Reserve your rental car very soon for pickup at OGG. (Small is fine.)

There is no beach resort near Wailuku that I know of. You wouldn't necessarily have to stay in Wailuku. Kihei/Wailea is about a 30 minute drive away.
Haleakala is the only volcano/crater on Maui. There are lots of hiking opportunities around Haleakala.
There are lots of waterfalls on the road to the east side of the island towards Hana.
Find yourself of good guide book on Maui. That will help you get your bearings.
