Luxe Hotel Sunset Blvd, opinions about locality?

Hi we will be staying at this place for a few days up to and including New Years Eve. Any thoughts or recommendations please.

It's in Bel Air, a nice section of West Los Angeles. I have a couple of small problems with the location:

-- It's right off the I-405 freeway, and that section of Sunset Blvd is always congested with on- and off-ramp traffic.

-- There's NOTHING within easy walking distance of the hotel. You will be forced to either take cabs everywhere or use your car. You WERE going to rent a car, weren't you?

For a luxurious getaway for locals, I think it's a wonderful property. If you're planning to center your LA area tour there, the freeway access is great, but otherwise it wouldn't be my first choice. When I go on holiday, I prefer having at least a couple of things I can walk to. But that's me....

My son got married there and it is a lovely old hotel. But, you need a car anywhere in LA and the freeway access is good to have but you can also use city streets. Very classy.

I like this hotel, too... and since I drive everywhere anyway, that doesn't bother me.

I would check with the hotel about New Year's Eve festivities. If you don't stay on the hotel grounds that evening, you'll need to arrange transportation to somewhere fun (say, farther up Sunset at one of the West Hollywood watering holes), as well as transportation back. If you want a limo, you'll have to reserve well in advance.

The literal answer to your question is: The Wilshire/Western Metro Red Line stop is the closest to the Luxe Sunset-- almost 13 miles away.

There is no light rail service on the Westside.

Your transportation options from LAX are: (1) rent a car; (2) hire a cab; (3) shuttle van; (4) limo; (5) a multi-stage public transportation option that, frankly, will be far more trouble than it's worth.
