Luaus (mixed reviews)
Going to Maui and am debating the Luau thing as an earlier poster was as well.
Seems like EVERYONE I speak to says "I enjoyed it, it was nice, but I'd probably NOT do it again".
What is your take on the Luau?
Everyone should do it once but NOT worth a second visit?
For someone who is tight on cash and must pick and choose activities I don't know that I want to do something that everybody seems to feel is not worth a second visit.

Been there several times and I say skip it. Wendy's right - they're pretty hokey and they are quite expensive. Go find some nice take-out food, a bottle of wine, and just picnic on the beach instead.

I think the best thing to say about a luau is that they're fine. It's not that you feel like you wasted your money, because it was entertaining, it's just you've seen it and you wouldn't have a need to see one again.
I wouldn't recommend a luau but I wouldn't discourage someone from seeing one. If your money is limited you should do another activity and then I like Iowagirl's recommendation. On Maui if you take your wine and picnic to the beach just infront of the Maui Marriott on, say, Thursday night you may hear the sounds of the luau! ; )
