Lower Manhattan Nitelife

Is there anything to do in lower Manhattan after dark? Am traveling in June and staying in the Wall Street area for a long weekend. Also, does anyone know how long it would take to get to Times Square from that area around 7 PM on a Thursday nite? Is it better to take a taxi or the subway? Your help is much appreciated!

The Wall Street area is pretty dead evenings and weekends.

Subway is cheap, easy and safe for 7pm Thursday.

hopstop.com is a website that tells you how to get around, gives subway vs. bus vs. taxi or walking options and times. Weekends are quiet downtown but you'll find some restaurant activity at the South Street Seaport and also at Battery Park. The lower east side, Tribeca and Soho are also nearish and lively.

Don't know what kind of activity you're looking for (restaurants? bars? clubs? comedy clubs etc.?)

For restaurants, look on menupages.com
for bars murphguide.com
for any place trendy hipguide.com

I personally think www.sheckys.com gives you the best search features for finding bars.

Unlike what many people may think Times Square is NOT the center of New York nightlife. It has theaters and a bunch of restaurants and a few traditional places for drinks/music.

But other areas - like Tibecas, SoHo and Lower East Side have many more trendy clubs, bars and restaurants.

Thanks everyone, I think we will try to hit some bars in the Lower East Side instead of going to the theater. We usually stay in the Times Square area and are used to walking everywhere at nite, so this will be a new experience. Love your city, it is the greatest!! Thanks again.
