looking for ideas for the evening
We will be in NYC next week. We have tickets for the Lion King one evening and will probably see a movie one evening. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do in the evening with kids, 14, 15 years old? how late do the stores stay open in Manhattan?

Store hours depend on the day of the week, but the department stores are usually open until 9:00PM...what days of the week will you be in the city? Teenagers usually like walking around Greenwich Village...St. Mark's Place has all kinds of interesting stores...My nieces and nephews enjoyed walking around Times Square...they liked the Virgin Music store, Madame Tusssaud's Was Museum and BB King's Restaurant and Club...there's also an ESPN Zone restaurant there that they would probably like...I can't recall if the Sport Cafe is still there, but they make like that also...that's a good place to walk around in the evening because there's alot of stores, etc....and you can also get something to eat...mind you, it's not gourmet food, so I'm suggesting them because of the age group...Serenidipity's on East 60th Street is a great place for dessert and there's a restaurant named Mars 2112 on Broadway that may appeal to them.

The Yankees are home every night next week except for Monday. The games start at about 7 pm. That is a great thing to do with kids and someone on this board should be able to get you there by subway with no problem at all.
The Empire State Building is open until about 11 or 11:30 PM. Why not go up at night instead of using up precious daylight hours?
There are usually free concerts at Lincoln Center in the evenings, and the South St. Seaport is also fun at night.
If you are planning on a movie, check out what is playing at the Ziegfeld. Quite impressive for action movies and a historical site as well.

I don't know if you children would be interested in this or not, (some are, some aren't . . ) but how about the 2 hour Harbor Lights Evening Cruise from Circleline? Leaves Pier/West 42nd Street at 7 PM. If you can get your hands on an Entertainment book there are coupons for buy 1/get 1 free to help keep costs down. Here's the website: http://www.circleline.com/sightseeing.htm Have fun in NYC!
