Looking for cheap eats near Atlantic City casinos
My husband and I will be spending a couple of nights mid-week in Atlantic City as a quick stopover between weekend visits with family. We've never been there before, will probably train in from Philadelphia and bus out to DC. The hotels are offering competitive room rates and I have no particular preference despite the bit of research I've done. Here's my criteria, I need a place or places within walking distance where we can eat without doing "fine dining" or paying big prices. Pizza, sandwiches, Mexican/Chinese/Thai/Indian/Italian takeout. If a particular hotel has these in the neighborhood, I want to know!
Thank you.
Thank you.

I don't know where you are staying but Tony's Baltimore Grill www.baltimoregrill.com/ has consistently put out great pizza and subs forever at relatively cheap prices. You can eat in or take out. White House Sub Shop on Arctic Ave. is famous for massive sub sandwiches. There are a few booths but most people take out. If you don't call ahead the wait can be long depending on how many people they have making subs. They are excellent. There is an outlet shopping district called "The Walk" within walking distance of most casinos which has a number of chain type restaurants. www.acoutlets.com/

Thanks remote. To clarify, I haven't made a hotel reservation yet. I'm looking for the availability of the inexpensive food near any of the "big" casinos. It's going to be a very low key couple of days and we won't be wandering far.

Caesars is located within a couple of blocks of "The Walk" area I described, which I think is relatively close to the train station. As is said, there are a number of less expensive restaurants in that area, such as Applebees, Ruby Tuesday, and decent pizza shops. Another advantage is that the area is a tourist area which has a visible police presence. As you may know, one you get away from the casinos in AC not all areas are safe to wander through, particularly in the early morning hours. Most of the casinos are on the boardwalk and there some less expensive restaurants on the boardwalk itself. The Tropicana has an indoor mall with several restaurants but they are not what most would consider "cheap eats." I hope this helps.

Yes, this does help. I have heard about the surrounding areas and had concerns about where particular hotels are and how far we'd need to travel away from them to avoid pricey food. It's great to know that Caesars is a viable option.
What about the Trump Taj? They are offering the "chairman tower room with water view" (I'm a sucker for a water view) which includes breakfast for $99/night. I'm very tempted by this but am curious about the neighborhood. Any thoughts?

The Trump Taj and Showboat are at the north end of the boardwalk. Other than the casinos there is not much in this area for tourists. There are of course many restaurants in the casinos. Trump has a Sabarros which I'm sure is reasonable. I don't know much about the cost of the buffets. You could safely walk south on the boardwalk a few blocks from the Taj and there will be restaurants on the boardwalk which will be less expensive. I think if you stay in this area, and are walking, you will want to eat in the casinos or on the boardwalk rather than the adjacent neighborhood.

All the casinos have casual restaurants where you can get burgers, pizza, chicken et al. There are also burger and casual dining outlets on the Boardwalk which are fine for grabbing a bit of lunch. You may want to stay at Bally's, which has indoor connections to Claridge, Wild West and Caesar's casinos as well as the upscale shops on the Pier. Resorts and the Taj Mahal are also connected. The Tropicana, at the other end of the Boardwalk, is huge enough to get lost in. The Boardwalk is well patrolled and perfectly safe for daytime promenading. It's safe at night, too, but can be a little intimidating in the stretches between hotels. I've yet to traverse The Walk, but it's gleamingly new and bright and offers lots of discount outlets.
