Logan Airport - to - South Station

I will be flying into Boston and renting a car at the airport for a few days. From there, I need to return the rental car and get to South Station to catch an Amtrak train home.

I would appreciate any advice on how to get from the rental car return location to South station. I will have a couple pieces of luggage to deal with.

A taxi to South Station would be fine, but not sure whether I can get one at the rental car return, or need to take the shuttle back to the airport. If so, it may be just as easy to get public transportaion.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Bob

Check the MBTA website. It's very simple to walk out the door at Logan and get on the very quick shuttle that takes you over to the T stop. The T (subway) will take you right into South Station and will cost far less (and probably even be faster than a taxi).

Actually, it's the silver line you want to take from Logan to South Station. It's a short ride, I'm just not sure where the stop is in relation to the rental car dropoff. You might want to call the rental company and ask.

I think you will have to drop the car, then take the rental company's shuttle back to a terminal to pick up the Silver Line. Depending on the amount of luggage it could be a bit tricky but not impossible.

Bennie is correct on the process. Take the rental car shuttle to any terminal, then catch the Silver Line direct to South Station. You don't need to take the "real" T at all.

Some rental car companies like Hertz and Avis, among others allow you to drop off/pick up at their downtown locations. That said, you may find it more convenient to return your car to downtown Boston and catch Amtrak either at South Sta or Back Bay station depending where you are.

I believe there are a couple of rental car options at South Station Hertz is one I think. This would allow you to take the Silver line to south station and then pick up and return the car there which would be more direct.
