Lion King - Broadway Play
Don't laugh folks. How good is the Lion King really? I love the movie. I would like to see the play but I'm holding out until my son is old enough...he's just 15 mths old. I wonder how long it will run on Broadway?
Could those of you who have seen it shed some light? Yes, I know it's veeeerry popular.

Thanks Howard! LOL. I just didn't want to rush and get tickets since he's so young...with the price of tickets these days and all. At this stage he would probably fall asleep half way through so I will wait until he's about 3 or so.
Cheers.

We just saw it on Broadway last week. It is phenomenal. I would anticipate it to be there (and elsewhere) for many, many years.
The thing that makes it so unique is not the story line but the costuming, choreography, and staging. It is a combination of cirque du soleil, broadway musical, and heartwarming story. I was awestruck by scene changes. The curtain never came down between scenes.
By all means see it.

My family and I also saw the Lion King recently and we all enjoyed it immensely. As John stated, the staging and production were fantastic and the music uplifting, very different from the movie in a good way. The performance we attended looked sold out with people standing at the back of the theater.

We just saw the production and loved it but young children may be disappointed in that the costumes are not at all like the movie, with the exception of Pumba and Timon. The rest are actors with great puppet costumes which I loved as an adult but children sitting near me couldn't figure out who was who.

Reminds me of a very funny New Yorker cartoon that appeared around five years ago.
Young "yuppie" woman holding her calendar and talking with husband,
"Well dear, I managed to get three tickets for Lion King for December of 2004. That means we should try to conceive by this Thursday."

Terrific show indeed. My daughter just saw it a few months ago right after her 4th birthday. She absolutely loved it and was mesmerized by the whole thing. At the time, she hadn't seen the movie yet, but had seen the Timon and Pumba tv show. She is now a big Lion King and New York City fan.
