Lihue Airport (Kauai)

We're visiting Kauai for the first time this May. We need to vacate our condo rental by 11AM on our last day, and return our rental car by 4PM. The plane doesn't leave until 10PM...any ideas on what we can do between 4PM and departure...are there storage facilities for luggage at the airport? Anything we can walk to from the airport?

Not sure about storage facilities, but doubt there is anything walkable from the airport. I wouldn't imagine cab fare down to Kalapaki (sp?) Beach would be terribly high, and there are a couple nice restaurant/bars down there.

Do you absolutely have to vacate your condo by 11am? The condo we stayed at said the same thing on paper, but when we asked at the office, nobody was checking in for that day so they let us stay. We didn't check out until 7pm! It was like getting an extra day since our flight didn't leave until 10pm either.

I suggest you bite the bullet and pay the extra day for the car, have a nice dinner, enjoy your last sunset.....savour the end of your trip.

We are in the same situation in Feb. We contacted the Marriott, near the airport. They told us to call the day before departure and see if they have availability to rent us a room for the next day. I believe the rate is $99. You can then take advantage of the pool and beach on the property. Duke's is also located at this location. If they have availability, we are actually planning on checking out of our north shore condo early to enjoy the time on the south side before out flight. A cab ride would be very cheap to the airport and perhaps you could take the hotel shuttle. GOOD LUCK!

If you can't have a late check out at the condo I second the motion of getting a special day rate room at the Marriott. Great way to spend the last day----lounging on the beach or poolside, eating at Duke's, shopping, taking a shower before departure at the nearby airport which is 5 minutes away on the MArriott courtesy shuttle.
