Last day in Kauai-What to do?
Thanks to all of you, I have finally made reservations and got my trip together. I've managed to spend about$3900.00 for Hotels, rental cars, and airfare including interisland air, taxes etc...... for 3 people, June 2-18. Oahu June 2-5, Big island June 5-12, my last 6 days will be in Kauai and my plane out does not leave until 8pm. Any suggestions on what to do the last day after I check out of my hotel? I'll have many hours left before my plane leaves.

When we left Kauai last summer we also had a late flight. We thought about doing some last minute sight seeing but after checking with our hotel ( Marriott Waiohai) and finding out for a minimal fee they would let us use the health club facilities and pool, we decided to hang out there, shower and change then hit the Walmart to pick up inexpensive souveniers and catch a quick dinner before we headed to the airport. You might want to consider a similar plan, especially after a busy two weeks. It was more relaxing having a last day to lounge around the beach and pool than driving and touring. And it didn't really cost anything!

On one of our trips to Kauai we used our last day for a trip into Waimea Canyon. Since we were staying in Princeville the canyon was much closer to Lihue and the airport than it was to our condo. Didn't have lots of hiking time but did have a nice day before our evening flight.

We usually either put our luggage in our car, or ask the bellhop to hold it, explaining that our flight doesn't leave until evening. Then we hang out by the pool and relax and enjoy ourselves one more day! Grab a last dinner early evening/late afternoon, preferably somewhere with a view, and then head to the airport! Great day.

P.S.-- I've never paid an extra fee to use the pool and such after I've just stayed in the hotel and am waiting to depart for the airport, anywhere, whether it's Hawaii, Vegas, wherever. I not only would never even ask, but I wouldn't stay at a hotel that made me pay.

I felt it was reasonable to pay for the use of the health club which included the gym lockers, showers, and towels for four of us. Many hotels charge for late check out if it is beyond just an hour or two. The hotel said use of the pool area was free, it was only a charge to use the health club.

We usually spend out last day there crying our eyes out and looking at the calendar to see how many more days before we come back.
All good suggestions above. We flew home on the red-eye one time and it's not something we'd do again because we didn't have Fodor's to give us all these good tips!
We now try and leave around 11-noon so we can check in/drop off the bags and go have breakfast and take one last drive and take in a lung full of good ol' Kauaian air. #39;(
Rusty, you off yer feed again? :-?

I know a few people who have been in a similar fix and have rented a room at the Marriot for the last day at a special price day rate, maybe you can ask if that rate is still available. The Marriott is only a mile from the airport, so its convenient. You can use their fabulous pool, swim in the bay, eat at Dukes, do some shopping, and be able to take a shower and change clothes before your flight. It may be worth the $$$$, I hate those late flights if I have already check out of a hotel.

Kal ol' buddy, this is your lucky day! You can get yourself a "Porky's Lunch Wagon" lunch box at this web site. I just ordered mine! I wonder if it holds beverages ??
