Legoland Hotel
You were all so helpful and kind to offer advice on SD accommodations, so I thought I'd try my luck on Carlsbad. To recap, looking for a place that has two separate bedrooms or connecting rooms, heated & kid friendly pool, proximity to LL, walkable to beach and / or ocean view. Kitchen or kitchenette not a must due to our short stay.
Current contenders are Hilton and Residence Inn. Carlsbad Beach Inn, my top choice is booked. Thought about Grand Pacific, but worried about condition of rooms. What about West Inn?
Any other suggestions or pros and cons to my current choices?
Thanks!!

We usually stay at West Inn and Suites. A five minute drive from Legoland and the kids like the free breakfast. http://www.westinnandsuites.com

I will second the vote for The West Inn and Suites! My kids call it " the cookie Hotel" because they set out milk and cookies at night. We have stayed here multiple times and have never been disappointed! The free breakfast is not bad either.

I agree with sludick. The Carlsbad Inn (I think this is the same one s/he is referring to) is a wonderful place for families. They have a lot of amenities, and they are right smack on the beach - so you can enjoy sunsets and walks. Carlsbad is a charming & delightful town with lots of places to bike or walk to - lots of good restaurants, shops, etc.

No, just some general advice - we were there the same time of year, and it can bit a bit chilly. So be prepared to wear light jackets when necessary. Also, if you get a chance, visit the Flower Fields, that was a real treat for us (2 adults). It's adjacent to LEGOLAND (we never went to the park).
There was a little store we bought produce - wish I could recall exactly, but it went right down from where we stayed along the ocean (south). Got great produce at a good price. Also, the more you can stay off the freeway, the better. It's not (usually) necessary, and is IMO just a headache.
