Late April-any chance to still see whales?

My husband and I will be going to Oahu April 17th, Big Island April 24th, and Kauai April 28th. What are the chances that the whales will still be around by then? Has anyone recently seen any whales around the islands, or have they moved on?

VWe officially say Aloha to the whales on May 15.
While the daily count is decreasing this time of year, they are still around. Just yesterday I was driving on the north shore of Maui and I looked over to glance out at Ho`okipa to catch a glimpse of the windsurfing competition when a large whale breached right beyond the break. You can get an idea of whale activity near Maui from the Pacific Whale Foundation at http://www.pacificwhale.org/adventures/whale_log.html
I don't know if there is a similar source for sightings around Oahu or the BI.

I've seen whales around Maui in early May. I believe the channel between Maui and Lanai is the best place to spot them. I've been to the BI and Oahu in Mar/Apr/May and never saw any whales (but then again I wasn't really looking) but on Maui, you can't help but notice them.

Thanks for the info. We will keep an eye out, but not be too disappointed if we don't see any whales.

It will be a good excuse for going back to visit Maui during whale season next trip.

We got back from Maui two days ago and there was a lot of whale activity. This was the first time that I could hear them though.During almost every snorkel or swim, if you go under and get quiet you can hear them.

Aloha Ants,

Whales abounding on north shore O'ahu as of Saturday, 4/3. Wonderful...
Hope you have the pleasure... just keep your "eye out for the spout".

Aloha! Have a wonderful time.

Also just returning from Kauai and Big Island end of March-April 1, only saw one whale from land. The best area for seeing whales is between Maui and Lanai.

Alternatively if your in reach of the east coast, impressive humpback whales can be consistently encountered by whalewatches originating from Massachusetts (to Stellwagen bank) in summer months.

We plan to hang out on various beaches on the North Shore of Oahu the first afternoon we arrive, so we will "keep an eye out".

Maybe we will be lucky. (If not this trip, hopefully there will be other trips to Hawaii, and who knows, maybe Massachusetts.)

Thanks for everyone's help.
