Nick's Restaurants-Oahu and Maui

Are they connected? I have seen reviews of the one on Maui, but not of the Oahu one. Any comments?

Can't speak to the one on Maui, but would strongly suggest avoiding the one on Oahu like the plague. We dined there last October while on our honeymoon. Very poor experience. Inattentive service, ordinary to below average food, and 70's club scene decor...all at high prices. See Fodor's Restaurant Raves for additional comments from myself and others, most of whom felt the same way....this place is way, way, way overrated.

Nick's Fish Market at the Kea Lani in Maui was out of this world when we were there in 2000. We went on a recommendation and it was worth it, great ambience as well. Have seen it mentioned on other posts and it seems to still be a favorite...enjoy.

I read an article not too long ago about the evolution of Nick's from Honolulu to Beverly hills to Chicago to Boca Raton. The Maui location was one of the first ones they opened, but neither the Oahu nor the Maui location is owned or operated by the originators, and as I understood it, they were not franchised. There was no relationship between the Maui location, owned by Tri-Star who also owns Sarento's ans Aaron's. IIRC, Nick's on Maui was bought by the owner of the Denver Broncos.

I meant to say Nick's on oahu was bought by the owner of the Broncos. The Nick's on Maui is owned by Tri-Star.
