Last Minute Trips
Well, we don’t usually do last minute trips as in book as we are packing the car. It was a bit stressful to get dog care plan and the garden watered but we managed. I usually don’t go more than a couple of hours from mama but I felt like we needed break.
We went to the Spring River in Arkansas, it’s a beautiful area. We did a canoe float trip today that was sooo fun even though we flipped our canoe and It was very scary.
All that to say, that short trips are worth it because it’s an escape from daily stressors and refresh your travel spirit/energy. I have decided to plan a few more short getaways this year. We need more adventure!

I have been eyeing up going away for just a few days (long weekend) to someplace just a few hours aways. Something easy where is I can get home quick if I need to but my family says why? If it's only a few hours away, make it a day trip. I think they are missing the whole point and where my hesitation comes in. It's just good to see someone else who gets it so thanks for the reminder and posting.

I take several one and two night trips a year. sometimes when the destination is barely 1 or 2 hours away. It 'feels' like a longer trip and is more relaxing when not fighting traffic both ways. Feels like a real getaway but still easy to deal with the pets and other stuff.
These could easily be day trips -- but IMO/IME a bit of pampering in a nice hotel even for just one night trumps a hectic day trip for sure.

I often drive from Yakima(WA)to Hood River (on Columbia River) only 2 hr. drive...stay over night..at one of motels with river view....very relaxing. Several easy hikes 20 min from town...For different way home ...drive highway 14 on Wa. side up to Kennewick & back to Yakima I 82.

Ocean Springs. Ocean Springs has a thriving historic and arts district. “A quirky gem for art lovers and culinary destination with more than 100 restaurants in its historic district.” It features the outstanding Walter Anderson Museum of Art and Gulf Islands National Seashore.
Natchez. The charming city dates back to 1716, making it one of the oldest settlements along the Mississippi River. By the 19th century, it was home to a bustling river port and more millionaires than any other city in the nation. More than 1,000 structures in this river town are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including homes dating to the late 1700s. They help preserve the city’s storied past while providing space for cutting-edge cuisine. There is the Natchez National Historic Park with three locations which preserves the Old South King Cotton heritage. This is a premiere Southern destination
Germantown—just minutes southeast of Memphis is Germantown which has a lively downtown.
