Last Minute Vacations....Can someone reccomend a site ( or not) for last minute vacations?

I'm looking for a site to book a last minute vacation. I've heard that there are great deals to be had. I looked at site59 and didn't see much. This would be for a last minute long weekend.

I've seen sites for last minute air travel,,,but heard that there were sites with complete packages ..cheap. I'm flexible as to where we go.

Thanks for any first hand knowledge.

Try vacationoutlet.com. Sometimes TNT has great last minute deals as well. There are laos last minute bargains listed on travelocity.com and expedia.com. Good luck!

Try Apple Vacations Website - Applevacations.net. You have to actually book through a travel agent. They list Sizzling Specials and some good deals can be found depending on your departure city, destination, time of year, etc.

Another vote for skyauction.com. I've seen numerous last minute vacations for a week go for $2 (or not go at all) BUT remember to add their service charge ($149 I believe) to the hotel bill for the week.

Hotwire <www.hotwire.com> has been getting a lot of publicity, but it seems geared for the high-end last minute tourist. How do <www.11thhourvacations.com> and
<www.skyauction.com> compare?

It's not the service charge (there is no service charge) you have to watch out for on skyauction.com, it's the tax. I've seen taxes on there as high as $250 for a week's hotel stay.

I have bid on several things at skyauction but habe never won. (It seems people there make staggeringly high bids and I could do better booking direct!) Air and hotel packages I have looked at include those in the Caribbean and Mexico. Generally there is a $149/person tax for 3-4 night stays. The tax is $195/person for 5-7 night stays and is $225/person for 7-10 night stays. In addition the bids only include airfare from a certain place for Carib and Mexico its usually Houston or Miami. You have to look at a chart for add on fare from your city. So for instance if I won with a $25 bid on a 3 night Cancun vacation it would really cost me $174 + add on air from Chicago $150 + shipping and handling fee ($15) A grand total of $338/person.

Try moments-notice.com, they have been in business a long time, way before the internet.

I saw very good deals a few months ago on site59.com but as soon as the summer travel season arrive they dried up. Maybe it will improve again in the fall?

I don't think these are geared towards last minute necessarily, but there are some good packages on www.travelzoo.com and www.travelscape.com

Skyauction is just that, an auction. On 11th Hour Vacations they offer packages for very low prices, but most of them need to be taken in the fairly near future (like within 1-2 months). It is basically a clearing house for unsold packages, that's why things are so inexpensive. For instance they have a 6-night trip to London and Paris, including air, for $944; a 10-night Hawaiaan cruise, including air, for $749; and 5 nights in Antigua, including air, for $568. Of course, these prices are the "from" prices, but the other prices are comparable. I've used them for a 3 night cruise from LA to Enenada for $229. Worked well. Will probably use them again.
