Las Vegas Shows
I had been contemplating a trip to LV in Dec. but am now contemplating 9 May-May 15th. Is it to early to make arrangements for hotels air and shows? What is the best way to get show tickets? There are many web sites which offer them. Is it quiet there at that time? I noticed Celine is not playing there during that time frame. Thanks.

Nope, it's not too early. If you book directly with a hotel/casino for a room, you can cancel up to 48 hours before arrival. So, if you find a cheaper room rate or change your mind about where you want to stay, you can cancel without penalty.
Show Tickets - it depends on which show. The Cirque shows are rarely discounted, and it's best to book ahead. If you're not picky, many of the second-tier shows are available at the half-price booths. Here's a FAQ:

May should be a pretty busy month for Vegas. The weather is good - getting on to hot, but not intolerable as the height of summer.

Sun. through Thurs. will be less crowded than the weekend. Rates for the weekend, Fri. and Sat. go up signaficantley. Though it's not to early to book, I usually find the best rates on Southwest Vacations about 2-4 weeks out.
We purchase all our show tickets in advance on vegas.com. The popular producation shows and headliners don't usually have discount tickets available and sell out quickley. Can be booked 3 months out. For minor shows, you can wait until you arrive and obtain coupons. Their is a 1/2 price ticket booth for same day shows by MGM at the huge coca cola bottle.

I've seen Jubilee and Folies Bergere, but not Le Femme. Thought Jubilee was better. We don't much care for the Cirque du Soleil shows, but might splurge and see KA in the future.
We also liked Mamma Mia, Danny Gans, and Splash. New producations coming out include Hairspray and Phantom of the Opera. I would be interested in seeing those on a future trip.

There generally is no meaning to the Cirque shows. They're just art, and very impressive art at that. Not everyone likes them, but the overwhelming majority think they're truly amazing. You can read show reviews at www.vegas.com
La Femme is definitely not a traditional style Vegas show. It's more like a Parisian Cabaret show, but very artsy. We saw it for half price and thought it was OK, but would have been very disappointed for full price.

Oh - as to where to buy tickets, buy them directly through the show or hotel where the show is, unless you want to wait and buy some tickets for half price when you get to Vegas. And when Celine is not playing, Elton John usually is in her place (expensive, but also supposed to be a great show).

Le Femme is wonderful but it's not an old fashioned Vegas show at all, even though the women entertainers are partially nude at times. It's more of a Parisian review with distinct segments featuring various dancers.
If you want old Vegas, definitely try Jubilee. That was the first Vegas show my husband and I saw on our 'maiden' Vegas voyage 21 years ago--a great way to get into the Vegas vibe.

Thank-you everyone. Yes then Jubilee it is. My husband has never been to LV, myself many a year ago. How about Splash? Has anyone ever done the horsebackriding at dusk with the steak dinner? Looks interesting.
