i am going to laguna beach for 5 days, any reccomendations on what to do and where to eat?

Let me get this straight: You picked a vacation destination and are planning to spend five days there without a clue of what there is to do?

If you're planning to go this summer, I hope you have your lodging arranged. It's VERY busy this year, and hotel prices are through the roof.

We loved Laguna when we visited last year. We stayed at a B&B called the Casa Laguna Inn and I would certainly stay there again. If you like mexican food Javier's was wonderful! We have been trying to duplicate their guacamole since we returned. There is plenty of shopping and galleries and we enjoyed walking along the beach. We were there in early May at it was way too cold to swim. Have a great trip.

A great restaurant there is Beach House. It's on Sleepy Hollow right on the beach.

Went to Laguna last week. Ate at Las Brisas (great setting on ocean, average tacos), Javier's (the real deal for Mexican), BJ's pizza (pretty good deep dish), Salt Creek Grille (really liked this place--a little south of laguna). Stayed at the Inn at laguna beach which I would prefer over any of the other high buck places (Surf and sand, Ritz, Regis, etc.) simply because the location was fabulous--right on the beach next to downtown adjacent to a beautiful walkway overlooking the ocean with several coves and unique areas and stairs for easy ocean access. I drove by the other places we had considered and consider the Inn at Laguna to be the best location.

i use to love bj's pizza or their calzones. yummy.

5 Days in Laguna Beach is a pretty long time, it's a fairly small beach town and you can see most of it in 3 days. I would suggest making your way up to Newport Beach area (15 min. drive) for at least a day, check out Balboa Island, do some shopping, go to the beach.

I highly recommend eating at Cafe Zoolu. Be sure to get reservations.

A good breakfast place is Coyote Grill. It's a Mexican place but they also serve American type breakfast food.

If you want to take a drive, go to Iva Lee's in San Clemente. It's like eating in New Orleans. Great food and they also have entertainment a few evenings a week.

If you want reasonably priced Thai, try Thai This in Dana Point. Really great food. It has a casual but nice atmosphere.

Personally, my husband and I didn't like Salt Creek Grille. We had lunch there and neither one of us thought the food was very good.

Doccide - I JUST posted a trip report on the Newport/Laguna area. Click on my name and you'll see it. Of course, I ate at the same restaurant both nights, but it gives you some logistics. I would spend some time exploring the coast line!

You might also check out Laguna Riviera. We were looking for a place on the ocean moderately priced, as it was part of a 3.5 week road trip. (Inn at Laguna was full) I think RJW suggested it, and it worked out wonderfully. Certainly NOT in the class of Surf & Sand (which is GLORIOUS, BTW) but it was clean, spacious and had private beach access. The rate was around $200 at the time (july '04).
