Hopefully, this will be my last two questions. The week-end is planned perfectly. When I attend a play, I try to appear "Dressy Casual." All except the aching feet. The tootsies are usually in a pair of rubber soled Merrells or other touring/walking type shoes. The big question. We are attending a party afterwards at Le Cirque with some of the cast members. I can't find any posts that addrsses the type of restaurant this is. Is it Dressy or casual? Do I need to upgrade the shoes? We are staying at the Paramount and I know I cannot walk very many blocks in shoes higher than three inches. Actually, I thought of one more question. Is the food good? Thanks, Sharon

Sorry I haven't read any of your other questions as I just found this board. I know you aren't from NY but I am surprised that you have never heard of Le Cirque. Take a look at the photos on their website and be the judge.

Taboni: This is what I knew about this restaurant. It was French and expensive. I can tell from the site you sent me to it is a lovely restaurant. I have had some wonderful French food and some that has been less than grand. So, obviousely, you are saying the food is excellent. But, does this mean I have to pull the 3 inchers out of the closet and suck it up? Must my tootsies look as shoo-shoo-poo-poo as the decor? thanks, Sharon

The food is good, not as great as previous versions of the restaurant, but still good. I have not yet been to this incarnation of the restaurant (they just opened in June) but I imagine that while the food is good (NY Times 2 stars Very Good) the scene is more important. I sympathize with your aching feet but get a cab.

Le Cirque is definitely a dressy restaurant. And more "power dressed" than "trendy dressed." Yes, you will need to get your heels out of the closet. Either take a taxi or wear your Merrell's to the front door and change on the sidewalk before entering (I've been known to do it).

Le Cirque is not considered a French restaurant. It is patronized mainly by an older, dressy crowd... I am sure the food will be excellent. I would not wear Merrells or walking shoes to dinner there but no ne will throw you out if you do. I would wear good shoes and take a cab...it is only a few dollars.

Le Cirque is one of the few restaurants in NYC that require jackets for men. If you think "Barbara Walters" you'll get a sense of how the clientele dress.

Agree with what's been said. Forget dressy casual. You need dressy. If the party is with actors, they'll be less likely to be dressed like Barabara Walters and more likely to be dressed like divas. Leave the Merrells at the hotel or with the coat check.

YES you must wear heels. You want to be over dressed there instead of casually dressed.

Black and white is a good combo. I'd do a stylish black skirt that is well tailored. Fabulous shoes.

Good jewelry.

Then a top in white that had a belt at the waist. You know the 'look' of this season.

You could do a great coat that is cut to fit you.

Ditto with all the others. You'll feel like a rube wearing Merrells in Le Cirque (I thought they closed???).

Change your shoes at the door. Silk pants, glittery/chiffon-y top, and heels. All black and you'll blend right in.

Gotravel, Le Cirque 2000 did close. I guess Mr. Maccione (sp?) opened up another version--again!

I had been to Le Cirque 2000 for dinner. The guests in the restaurant reminded me of the cast of "Dynasty." There were several Joan Collins-like women poking at their food and inhaling bottles of Champagne.

Nobody looked like they were having any fun.

I am always amused that you women think you must wear heels to be dressed up. There are plenty of flat shoes and sandals and shoes with the most minimal of heel that are both sexy and stylish enough to get you into the dressiest place!
