Kimpton Boutique Hotels in SF...?

Trying to decide on a hotel in SF (isn't everyone?). Checking hotel web sites as well as hotel dicount web sites and discovered that the Kimpton Hotels will match any discount site...thinking that's good. Can anyone tell me about the Prescott Hotel, Monticello Hotel, or Hotel Palomar. Looking for a nice place to stay in Nob Hill or Union Sq. area but doesn't have to be top of the line, around $150 or a little less. All three of these hotels fall into that range with them honoring the discount web rates. Thank you for your input!

A co-worker stayed at the Juliana..that is a Kimpton property. I think you will be fine with the other properties, based on what I've heard about the Kimpton properties. (other properties are the Harbor Court..or the Galleria Park..have you looked into these?)

I have stayed at the Hotel Palomar a few times. It is without a doubt my favorite hotel - in any city ! The staff is wonderful, great location and the rooms are great. If you get a room facing Market St you can watch the fog roll in at night (if you are in your room at that time !) and it is quiet ! If you need to catch one of the trolleys there is a stop right outside the door and the cable car is a block away. You would never be disappointed in the Palomar.

We have friends who live in SF and stayed at the Palomar for a birthday. They adored it and especially liked the Fifth Floor restaurant.

I have stayed at the Sir Francis Drake, which is another Kimpton property less than a block away from Union Square. It recently celebrated its 75th anniversay and quite a bit has been done to restore it to its original grandeur. Barbara Stanwyck and Myrna Loy were past guests. The cable to North Beach runs right in front of it. I should also warn you that it is reputed to be haunted, although its management refuses to give details. I suppose the biggest complaint I had about my stay there were its tiny bathrooms and the logistics of its toilet.

I believe the Kimpton Group has something like one or two dozen hotels in San Francisco, which is its hub. You should have no problem finding one.

We are reservations at the Hotel Palomar but I am reading about the neighborhood and am concerned. If it is not a great place to stay, can anyone suggest something as nice as the Palomar in a nicer neighborhood? Thanks.

We have stayed at the Prescott a number of times over the past 10 years..DEFINITELY get a room on the concierge level...
Concierge level comes with continental bkfst, afternoon drinks and hordouerves from Wolfgang Puck's restaurant downstairs..
ROOMS are on the small side but they are decorated beautifully....It is only 2 blocks off Union Sq and is perfectly safe to walk that area..

The Fifth Floor Restaurant in the Palomar is SUPERB...

I've stayed at the Prescott and the Monticello (as well as other Kimpton hotels) and I have always been pleased. Monticello has, I think, a slightly more feminine look to its rooms, Prescott a little more sophisticated style, but I like 'em both. I was in SF last month and we checked out the Palomar...it looked very nice, a little edgier sytle. Another good SF hotel group is the Joie de Vivre group, by the way.

I stayed at the Sir Frances Drake also in December. I had no complaints. I am sold on Kimpton Properties. Earlier this month I stayed at the Hotel Monaco in Denver. (They also have one in SF.) They treated us like royalty & the rate was $119. For $25 per night we upgraded & they gave us an incredible room. I will always try to find Kimpton wherever we go from now on.
