Key West questions
Hi. I'll be going to Key West soon, unfortunately for only one day.
1. I'm a key lime fanatic. What is the best source for key lime baked goods? Is there key lime ice cream anywhere?
2. Is the"cookie lady" still at the sunset celebration?
3. Which restaurant would you suggest for the one night? Thank you.
Richard

The Blond Giraffe for the best key lime pie, right on Duval St.
I would suggest the Afterdeck Bar at Louie's Backyard for a drink, sunset and some romance. Stop by for some lunch but don't have your evening meal there.
As far as restaurants there are a lot of them. Cafe Des Artistes is still under renovations, depending on when you are there I would recommend them. 7 Fish and the A&B Lobster House or Alonzo's Oyster Bar. El Siboney if you like Cuban. For breakfast try Blue Heaven, Pepe's Cafe or Harpoon Harry's.

I'm not familiar with the "cookie lady" but recall seeing a question on her in this forum recently. Someone who lives in KW indicated that they hadn't seen her in a couple years.
I think all the shops that sell ice cream will have the key lime flavor. Many of the places in town that sell key lime pie seem to feature the pie from the Blonde Giraffe. It's good but has a realy, really thick layer of meringue on it. It's the only one I've tried in KW - I'm curious to know if anyone can suggest a pie that one of the restaurants makes themselves that might be different and worth trying.
If you want decent upscale food (not innovative but fairly good) with great atmosphere and the weather is cooperating (i.e. not raining, warm enough and not windy), I suggest the Hilton restaurant on Sunset Key - Latitudes. Others in this forum have criticized the food - I've had better but it was pretty good and the atmosphere if you get one of the outdoor "beachside" tables, in incredible. Siboney's does have excellent Cuban food but it's kind of a basic family/neighborhood place. If you want a unique and funky atmosphere that you won't find elsewhere, I'd do dinner at Blue Heaven. I've only been there for breakfast but is the dinner menu is executed as well, it would be a good choice.
