Lunch in the Keys

My husband and I will be driving from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West next Saturday. Any suggestions for a lunch spot along the way?

Hi...I've got two for you:

1) In Marathon, just south of the airport and on the same side is Herbies. I only know it for dinner but they do lunch too. It is about beer and fish that's simple and good.

2) At Sugarloaf Key - MM 20 -bayside is Mangrove Mama's. Go slowly. It is easy to miss, even when you are looking for it. Beer, soup, burgers and fish are all good here.

OR
While in Key West, visit Louie's Backyard. Upscale and very good. Reservations are a good idea.

Sorry...I forgot a good one. If you get hungry before you reach Marathon or Sugarloaf, in Islamorada is an excellent choice at MM 79.9, oceanside, and set back from the road, is Lazy Days. A reservation can be a good idea - ask for a table on the patio overlooking the ocean. Wide menu plus daily specials, and it is all good. Also great for dinner.

Islamorada Fish Company. Food is OK. But the setting is awesome.

No Name Pub on Big Pine Key. Stay alert and you may see some Key deer on the drive back to the 70 year old pub.

Every inch of wall and ceiling in the bar is covered with signed dollar bills.

The items we liked best were their pizza and the silver dollar siazed fried potaots.

Another vote for Islamorada Fish Company. It was a good halfway-ish stopping point, great food for the prices, and an unbeatable view. Definitely put us into "vacation mode" after the long drive.

I am a Lazy Days enthusiast also. The Lorelei is an historic tiki bar lunch destination as well.

Lazy Days has better food, and a beautiful waterside deck.

Lorelei has authentic Keys patina.

In Marathon, you can stop at the Keys Fisheries, good food, right on the Gulf. In Key West, look for B.O. Fishwagon. Casual, inexpensive fun place that Jimmy Buffet's band frequents when in town. Music on weekend nites.

Really yummy brunch and lunch at Mrs. Macs Kitchen in Key Largo. It is on the right side if you are headed south - hole in the wall kind of place, very laid back but very good food. Been there on a couple of different trips and has been good each time. www.mrsmacskitchen.com
Have a good time!

Craig's Restaurant (MM90.5) in Tavernier has a great fish sanwich and a wonderful seafood omelet.

Fish House on Key Largo. It's right next to the Sandal Outlet.

It may have been the best meal of our trip- definitely the best Key Lime Pie we had by far.

Almost forgot to mention: Alabama Jack's. When you're leaving Florida City, just S of town, you'll see a sign, point to Card Sound Road, off to the left. Take it. It's the better part of 15 miles or so back to AJ and the toll bridge. Gives you a sense of what the Keys must have been like 50 years ago....

In Key Largo, the Big Chill puts out a good lunch. Their parking is a bit crowded but the restaurant wasn't a bit when we were there.

In Islamorada, the Island Grill was a nice lunch spot. I'll try to find it again on our next trip down.

Just returned from Key West. We ate the Fish Factory in Islamorda on the way to Key West. The fresh fish sandwich was great and the setting even better. We sat right next to the water. On the way back, we stopped at the Fish House in Key Largo. Food was good. Sad to be back. Thank you for your suggestions.
