Kauai weather shows clouds
The long term weather report for next week (10 day forecast) shows rainclouds and showers with not a bit of sun peeking through. What does that mean in Kauai? The sun won't show at ALL?? In July? I spent a wet winter vacation in Kauai last year stormed and rained steadily for 4 out of 7 days and I thought in July I'd have sunshine. I'm afraid I'm going to be disappointed. We're going to be there from July 9-16th. I know it clouds up and rains frequently, but the reports have me a bit nervous. OH, and we are going to be in Poipu, 1 block from the beach. Does anyone live there who knows what those cloudy weather reports are talking about?
Thanks for any reassurances...

Rain in Kaua`i? Nah!
All I can tell you is that the last two summers we've been to Kaua`i. The weather forecast showed clouds with rain and I got nervous. On both trips we had great weather. We had a little rain overnight, once in the afternoon, and one wild rain storm that lasted a day, but it was hot, sunny with clouds most of the time. We're going back again in 21 days! Have a great trip.

(writing from north shore Kaua`i)
Clouds are good -- they cool things down a bit.
Rain is good -- it's what makes Kaua`i the "Garden Isle".
Passing daytime showers this time of year rarely last for more than 5-10 minutes, especially down on the Po`ipu side.
No guarantees, but I'm sure you'll have plenty of sunshine for your visit. Have a great time! 8-)

Each of the islands has a wet side and a dry side. On Kauai, the north side is wet and the south (Poipu area) is dryer. What I always thought was interesting about Kauai is that it's said Mount Waiaaleale (sp?) is the wettest spot on earth with more than 300 inches of rain a year. Poipu is a short distance away and gets about 40 inches of rain a year. I've alwyas been told if it's raining in one area, got to the opposite side. Hope my facts are correct.

Interestingly enough, quite a few years ago on our first trip to Kauai, there was a very slowly developing low pressure area, over all the Hawaiian Islands. For about 3 days, the only spot in the entire island chain that had sunshine was..... Poi'pu! And we got to take advantage of it.... as will you, I am sure. Have fun!

No worry! The windward side as of today 070805 was a little overcast and windy, but no heavy down pours. This weekend is forecasted to be a little wetter than it has been. Hawaii weather reports can be very deceiving. It rains everyday, usually on the windward sides, but by mid day, it will stop. Poipu should be nice.

We are travelloing to Kauai on 7/15 for 3 weeks. I would not get too concerned unless there was a report of a major trpoical depression, hurricane, etc. We have been to Kauai, the Princeville area, aboust 16 times since 1984 and have lost perhaps 3 toal days to rain. Generally there are showers everyday, but they clear and make the North shore the garden spot it is. Being in Poipu, even less chance of a full days rain. Have a great time.
