Kauai - Raddison or Sheraton Poipu?

For roughly the same $$$, which would you choose and why? Thanks.

I don't know about the Raddison, but I just booked the sheraton through hotwire and now I'm terribly disappointed. Go to tripadvisor.com and read the sheraton reviews. I guess maybe if you stay in the wing that faces the beach you'll be okay.

pianogirl, don't be too disapointed. The Sheraton is on one of the nicest beaches. The area is quiet, but there are some nice restaurants, shopping all around. Make the best of it! I am not sure about the Raddison, but the Sheraton does have a great setting right on the beach!

We stayed at the Sheraton in 2002 in a deluxe ocean room. We loved the beach and the great sunsets! The Radisson's beach isn't very swimmable. In fact they have had drownings there.

The room at the Sheraton wasn't anything special but it was clean. We had a very positve experience with the staff and service.

I wasn't really thrilled with the breakfast buffet. It wasn't included in our rate so we paid something like $20 per person.

I'm kind of freaking out on the trip advisor reviews of the Radisson. My husband and I are staying in a condo on Lawai Beach in March and we needed a place to stay for two nights prior and guess what hotel we chose? Yes, the Radisson.

The Radisson is a nice, moderate hotel with nice grounds. But for the same dollars, the Sheraton is a better deal.

I've stayed at both. Rooms are comparable, but I would choose the Sheraton, mainly for its beach and location right in Poipu. Radisson is just a few miles from the airport in Lihue, not far from Kapaa. I personally like the Poipu area better. If you can get an ocean fromnt room at the Sheraton, you will be right on the water. Have seen lots of whales in this area in season.

Ditto the other posters' responses. I think the Sheraton is in a much nicer location and whether you are directly on the beach or across the two lane road, it is a better choice. It is a nice area for morning walks and there are many restaurants within a few miles. You will also be on "Kauai's sunny south shore - Poipu" where the weather is much more dependable. I cannot begin to count the many times we are traveling from rains on the east side of the island to find it dry and sunny on the south shore - a best bet esp. if you are going to be there in the winter months. The Sheraton also has a much nicer beach than the Raddison, IMHO.

I spent 8 days at the Sheraton last September. We visited the Radisson. THERE"S NO COMPARISON between the two hotels! The beaches, Poipu beach and Sheraton beach are far better than the beach at the Radisson. Also the area around the Sheraton is much nicer than the other one. If you choose the Sheraton, I'm sure you won't regret! Good luck!!!

We've driven near the Sheraton and never paid much attention to it, but have stayed at the Radisson. I agree the Radisson beach is not for swimming, and Poipu beaches are nicer if that is a main criteria. However, the Radisson is perfectly located to get you to Poipu or Princeville/Hanalei as you may desire. Driving from Poipu to Hanalei, or reverse, is a bit too much day after day. Radisson is also close to Lydegate Park for snorkeling or playground (if you have kids). We found the drive down to Poipu rather easy, and did it a number of times. On our last stay, on the North Shore, we drove to Kapaa a number of times but only to Poipu once (it was just too far). Generally, gasoline is cheapest in Lihue. Radisson has nice grounds and swimming pools, great place for lounging with an ocean view, torch lighting ceremonies with free drinks, and is close to stores and activities in Kapaa and Wailua, as well as Lihue.

both hotels are nice, but the Sheraton is on a great beach. The Sheraton doesn't have much of a pool.
