Kauai Luau

Intereseted to know if anyone had been to the Drums of Paradise Luau at the Hyatt. If so can you please give some feedback. Staying at the Hyatt in late May. Any other good options for a luau on Kauai?

Go to www.gohawaii.com and check the calender of events on kauai.
I found a luau that was put on as a benefit for the community, not the tourists.

We found the luau and Paradise Pacifica to be the best on the island and the show included in the price is fantasic as it takes place after dark the colors and special effects are really great. The luau at the Kauai Astin (by the Coconut Market Place) is pretty good but not as authentic. Just look in any of the booklets from the airport or any hotel and the Pacifica will be in it...have fun

I attended the luau at the Hyatt about 3 years ago and it was very nice. Held outdoors on a large grassy area in front of hotel. Food was very good, typical Luau food with a bit of a Hyatt twist. The thing I liked best was that the free drinks were not limited to watered down mai-tais. You could have what you wanted and they had wait staff passing around alot of other tropical drinks like pina colidas etc.. The entertainment was nice, about what you get at the rest of the luaus, but all in all a nice evening. The other luau to consider is Smiths Tropical Paradise located near the fern grotto. Their luau is held on large tropical grounds with lots of birds and ducks and tropical pathways to walk amoung. The food is served under cover in open sided buildings. They only served mai-tais as their free cocktail. The food was pretty good, again typical luau fare. Their entertainment is held in a separate area and you sit in graduated covered bleachers to watch the program. They have a man made volcano which erupts at the start of the show and is unique to their program. I think it added to the program and would rank their entertainment a bit above the Hyatt. Both are good luaus and I would recommend either.

Everyone: Thanks for all of the information!
bb: Since we are only staying at the Hyatt 3 days..what do you think about eating at Tidepools and then just doing the show at the luau? Did you try Tidepools? I will also consider Smiths...sounds nice, just not as convenient as the Hyatt.

Ate at Tidepools in Sept. The atmosphere is romantic but the food is really mediocre and quite expensive. Had their macadamia nut encrusted mahi-mahi and it was virtually tasteless. Go with the Ahi I'm sure it would have been better.

We ate at Tidepools and thought the food was quite good. Although Suzie's stay was more recent so maybe it's gone downhill.

Mass people seem to make more noise good noise about the beach house and Roy's. You can find the beach house menu online. I would go to epinions.com for more feed back on where to eat. Down side you have to know the restaurant you want reviews on. zagat.com for
