Kauai - less expensive activities?
My husband and I are leaving next Wednesday for a week. We don't have money for helicoptor/boat/bike tours, so I'm looking for advice on short hikes to waterfalls, special beach experiences, photo ops etc. I'd like to see Waimea Canyon and heard about a farmers market on the west side on Saturdays. All comments are appreciated!

There are sooooo many free things to do on this island -- too many to list!
When you arrive at the airport, you'll see an informational kiosk in the baggage claim area, filled with brochures for tourists. Pick up the free magazine-size "101 Things to Do on Kaua`i". Just like the title sez, you'll find 101 things to do -- most of them, free!

gelato lover,
How about getting a beach chair and schlepping it up to Tunnels beach and hang out all day?
I just got back from Kauai. Here is a link to my trip report. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=34513767
We did not spend a lot of $$ on activities. In fact the only thimg we did other than eat that cost money was to do the Allerton Gardens tour ($30.00 per person).
Pick up a copy of The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook. It lists oodles of things to do on the island that are free. It is a great resource for maps, directions and activities. Many of Kauai's treasures are free and won't cost you a penny!
Here is a link about the farmer's markets. You might find the sight interesting too.
