Kauai in May 2009
My wife and I are frequent travelers to Kauai, but always in Mid July or early August.
We are looking at traveling in Mid may of 2009 instead of July.
What are weather conditions in May?
I would assume the island would be slightly less crowded at this time as the schools are still in session on the mainland.
Any thoughts as to better or worst weeks in May?

Weather is sort of like the stock market, i.e., prior results are not indicative of the future.
But, you may want to do some research on a weather website and see the historical highs, lows, rain, etc.

Thanks Anna to the one sane person answering.
Bill (iamq)I still feel that hate, hehehe.
60 days and counting.
I was just trying to get a comparison of May to mid July, our normal time of travel.
I think we will try to get zmid May and hopefully avoid something worse than crowing roosters (school kids).
Oh man, I can see the parents writing to their congressman now.

Hi Rich,
I've been to Kauai many times in late May and beginning of June. It's rarely crowded with the exception of Ke'e beach in the afternoon. If you want to do Kalalau/Hanakapiai trail at the end of the road, go early in the morning to beat the hot sun and bring lots of water. The Cliffs are fine too w/o AC. Only a few hours in the afternoon when the sun shines into the condo, it's a little warm in the loft, but we have the fan running downstairs and it's fine to us. It rains at night sometimes and temp is a little cooler. If it rains during the day, usually it's passing showers. Resorts are a little more crowded after Memorial Day, but not sold out when we were there.

Hanalei,
Thanks for the reply.
Actually, we own our timeshare at The Cliff's and always stay there in a loft. Have been there in JUly and heat has never bothered us, celing fans are great.
WE have booked for first two weeks of May. I was hoping to get away from some of the July crowds.
Thanks again

The most anoying crowds are these two guys who show up on Tunnels every time I go to sit under MY tree and they try to steal my beach lounge chairs...hehehe.
Billy..........don't you ever teach, you are always on here..........oh wait......so am I.

Hi Rich,
We just got back on Sunday.
The weather was fantastic. The last day the Vog came in, from the volcano, and things were a bit hazy/hot w/ no trades.
So, we stayed in the water and swam until afternoon hit and headed for the airport.
Maybe it was beginners luck but the weather was great. And it was nice to be able to drive to tunnels and get a good parking spot!
Regards,
pete
