Kauai in 2 weeks!
Well, folks, I leave for my 4th visit to Kauai two weeks from today. I already know the visit will be too short - what was I thinking when I booked only 8 nights? We'll spend the first 3 nights in Poipu at Kuhio Shores condos and then 5 nights at the Princeville Hotel (we got a great deal from Starwood). This will be our first time staying on the north shore, so please wish us few showers and calm surf for lots of snorkeling!

pdxgirl...I will wish this for you because I am wishing it for myself too! I will be in Poipu 10-9 to 10-14 and Oahu before then. I too wish it were longer...note the 5 weeks in Kauai post!I too am planning on investigating the north shore more than I did on my first trip. Thanks to Bill and another poster whose name escapes me for posting the link to their photos of their recent trips!

I doubt you booked a suite at PVille with a kitchen, but if you like sushi rolls.....go to Hanalie Dolphin Fish Market and pick up some huge fresh rolls, with fresh wasabi, some ginger....I NEED AHI!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been reading all of the Kauai posts here for quite a while and have complied a long list of places to eat and beaches to visit. I will try to have a good time in spite of the roosters, bugs, rain, crowds, and high prices. I'm sure the Princeville Hotel will be a real dump, but I'll try to muddle through. Thanks to all for helping me prepare for this ordeal.

I have my Blue Book in tatters, my word docs with all the posts from here cut & pasted together and every day filled with places I want to see,eat at, swim in, hike to, shop at on and on and on....DH hates to plan ahead and likes to "play it by ear" I think he cringes when he hears me say "On the Fodor's website..." We always find a happy medium so it works out in the end but I really do think five weeks would ideal!

Not sure if it will have opened when you get here, but we're all a-buzz about a new dining spot opening soon in Hanalei -- a tapas/pupu open-air sports bar.
In the large shopping center across the street from Ching Young Village/Big Save.
Don't know the name...

PDXGirl, Have a great time!!!
Wishes for calm surf, and not toomany showers. I actually LIKE the occasional showers--keeps the air fresh, the mountainsides of the north shore full of waterfalls, and the countryside lush and green. Aloha!!

A l o h a ! The Princeville Hotel has one of the most beautiful views in all the islands and the snorkeling off their beach is very safe but don't expect coral or massive schools of fish. Rain won't spoil your time. We always rent kayaks in Hanalei and paddle the river and the inner bay. The Kauai Trailblazer with all its trail and beach listings makes a nice companion to the Fodor's Hawaii. I grew up in Anahola and try to make it back every two years for the family reunion picnic.
