Hello all.. My husband and I are planning our 10 year anniversary trip to Kauai. We are struggling with where to stay on the island. We will be traveling the first week of September. We like quiet, uncrowded beaches. We definitely want to visit the Canyon, do a snorkeling or kayak tour, and stay somewhere that has beach access. I thought North Shore sounded ideal, but my husband is worried about all the rain. We would like to stay somewhere where we don't have to fight traffic and tourists. Can anyone help us decide which end of the island we should choose?

Rain will be mostly at night or early in the morning, with possible periodic downpours that will do very little to dampen your vacation.

I second the North shore bid.

You will fight traffic only traveling from one side of the Island to the other, especially around Kapaa.

There are great beaches up North for snorkeling and just fun in the sun.

Yes, you will get rain, but that is what nakes this side of the island so lush and green. Do not let it hamper your plans.

I have reavled there many time from Pa and have a fileof our favorite things, places, restaurants. If interested, drop me an email and I can forward.

Definitely the north shore if you want seclusion. And, my choice would be Anini/Haena area.

The first time we went to Kauai we stayed in the timeshare portion of the Marriott in Lihue and loved it. Great resort with the best pool! Plus, it is about in the middle of the island which makes for convenient jaunts to the north or south.

I'm guessing you are going at one of the least crowded times of the year since the kids will be back in school. We have always stayed in the Kapaa area, but will likely stay on the north shore next time out. You will love it regardless of where you stay.

It is my opinion that there are no wrong choices in Kauai. I prefer NS and September is still a fine time to hit the waves. Others prefer Poipu, East and West. In my experience, we have had some fabulous weather on NS and enjoy the usually brief showers in the afternoon each day.

I have been to Kauai three or four times and I still prefer the North Shore. To me it is like old Hawaii must have been like. Very lush, tropical, beautiful. The south side of the island is nice but dryer.
Don't forget to go to Hamaura Samin (sorry my spelling is terrible!) in Lihue, for the best soup ever!!
