Kaimana Beach Hotel

Hello, We're staying in the Kaimana Beach Hotel when we first move to HI in March. Any feed back. Reasons for choosing it: I'll be really pregnant then and it sits directly on the beach, so I'll be able to waddle to the sand and just stay all day. And, it takes Government Rates.

Any info about it would be great. I lived in HI as a kid, so I already have a good plan of places to go, things to see, and we'll be there two years, so it's not like we have to hurry up and do everything at once.

I really just want info on the hotel. thanks.

It's in a nice quiet area of Waikiki called the Gold Coast. It's just below Diamond Head and at the end of Kapiolani Park.

According to 'Oahu Revealed', it has two shops, two restaurants.

It also has two buildings. One is 9 stories. The other is 3 stories with no elevator in that building.

It's about 3-4 blocks from the main area of Waikiki.

It is near Sans Souci Beach.

The closest "attraction" to it is Waikiki Aquarium.

It's full name is New Otani Kaimana Hotel.

If you want more info, I suggest you start a new thread with: New Otani Kaimana Hotel Oahu.

When I would visit my friend in Honolulu, he would take me to Kaimana for a nice brunch--the outdoor restaurant faces the beach. I think it is near the beach/bar location they used for Magnum PI.

New Otani is a wonderful property, with tons of history (Robert Lewis Stevenson did some of his writing under their banyan tree). Rooms are on the small side, but it's a boutique hotel -- they cater to the visitor and can help you with _anything_. The 3-story building has efficiency apartments, so if that's where you're staying, be sure to request a ground floor unit. You'll have a great little park next door (for your daily I'm-gonna-be-a-mommy walks!), and yes, you can waddle right on to the sand every day from the property.

Dining at their terrace restaurant is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Best of all, the property is q-u-i-e-t. No nightclub, no pool, so the hotel guests tend to be business travelers and those who are early-to-bed, early-to-rise folks.

I ditto most of what auntiemaria says! The regular rooms are tiny, so we get a Ocean-View Jr. Suite, which has that wonderful wraparound view of both the ocean and Waikiki. When the lights come on at night, the view is fabulous! The a/c blows right over your bed, and some people dislike that. Also, all rooms are supposedly smoking, but I never detected any smoke smell when I've stayed there. The hallways and some furnishings are a little tired, but the rooms are immaculate and the service excellent. The restaurant right on the sand is a pleasure to eat in, and, oh my goodness, Sans Souci Beach ... my favorite place to play in the water on Oahu! Like a big warm sloshy bathtub ... I think you will love it! In case you haven't checked it out, their website:
