Juneau/Glacier Bay jaunt; need advice
I just got back from a cruise to Alaska and loved itwhat a wonderful place to cool off! So I am thinking of going back next year, just to Juneau, figuring that I could see the things I hadnt seen and just be cool. (Las Vegas was 113 when I left.) I am a widow, traveling alone, and dont want to rent a car (please dont lectureI hate driving). Any help on hotels, restaurants and tours/sights would be appreciated. Im also hoping to see Glacier Bay. Anyone know how, or do I have to take a Glacier Bay Cruiselines tour?

Your curise probably hit most of the hot spots...but Glacier Bay National Park is not to be missed...you can fly up there from Juneau and stay in the National Park's lodge...I camped, but the lodge looked nice and had a good restaurant...once there you can take the Park Service boat tour...the lodge has nice porches for sitting and reading, but otherwise it is very quiet...Juneau is also nice as small cities go...very scenic!! and great people too!

Bob, thanks for the info--that sounds exactly like what I am looking for, the antithesis of LV: cool tranquility! I found the Park/Lodge site--I can't believe you have to snail-mail the lodge for reservations. What is this, the dark ages? I've had no luck finding info on flights there, only cruise packages. Any ideas?
How about Juneau hotels?

Hi Sue
I'm glad you found the lodge site...in Juneau, I camped out, but I'm sure there are lots of chain hotel/motels there...perhaps even by the airport.
I don't recall much advance planning for the flight over to the park and I think flying is the only way (other than boat) to get there...perhaps the people at the lodge can tell you how to arrange flights...they were very small 5 passenger planes that sort of shuttled back and forth (about 15 minutes or so as I recall)...

I actually found info about flights and lots of other stuff on gustavus.com. I guess all it took was a request for info for my internet searches to work out. Thanks, Bob.
But I still would love some first-hand info about Juneau hotels if there's a Juneau expert out there.
