Has anyone stayed at the Glacier Park Lodge?

We have reservations there next summer and I'm wondering what it's like. One of our options is a "big sky" room, which is a corner room on the third floor of the main building. Our other option is a "family room" on the third floor of the annex. I would love any input that anyone might have! Are the rooms nice, noisy, would one choice be better than the other? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You'll love Glacier National Park. But what made you decide on Glacier Park Lodge, I'd recommend Many Glacier Hotel over it in a heartbeat. Just my $0.02.

Oops, sorry Ann, just read another post that said you couldn't get into Many Glacier next summer. Then try Swiftcurrent Inn or one of their rustic cabins at Many Glacier, probably the best deal in the park.

Just be aware that Glacier Park Lodge is NOT a part of Glacier National Park.

Debra, what do you mean that it is not a part of the park? It is a National Park Lodge located in East Glacier on the edge of the park. At least, that's what all the literature says.

The official national park website
www.nps.gov/glac/pphtml/lodging.
html
doesn't list Glacier Park Lodge as one of the lodges inside the park.

Glacier Park Lodge is located in East Glacer (a town east of the park).

The pictues on their website look lovely though.

The Glacier Park Lodge is in the town of East Glacier, just outside the park. However, it is run by the same concessionaire that runs the other concessions in the park.

I know you have already gone, but I would like to add my opinion in case anyone wants to know in the future. My husband and I stayed at Swift Current Motor for the first 2 nights in GP. Good location, fair rooms. Then we decided to splurge on a room for our 3rd night at GPL. HUGE MISTAKE! All of the rooms are non-smoking, however the baclonies that all connect are not. We were in a corner room that had a balcony that all the smokers seemed to love. Even with our windows closed (no A/C - we were boiling!)we could smell the smoke. Then our neighbors came back. The walls are so thin we could hear every single word as if they were in our room! The lodge likes to tout it's faults (such as loud pipes) as "charming". I think that is their way of saying "we aren't fixing anything". We were not "charmed", but annoyed at their rude response to our complaints of the smoke. They claimed they were sold out - They didn't appear even crowded and wouldn't give another room. I asked for a discount then. They said to call the main reservation line. I did and left messages twice and they said the manager wasn't in and would call back. This was in August...I am still waiting.

I almost forgot to add...The location might be the worst in the park. You are what seemed a million miles from going to the sun road and many glacier which both offer some of the best views and hikes in the park. The location is terrible unless you are coming in on amtrack. The station is right across the street. Oh, did I forget to also mention the wonderful train noises all night?

Went to Glacier this summer but did not stay there. I too was surprised that the hotel was not in the middle of the park. Check the Fodors Rants and Raves section. It is rated very poorly. Here is one review. Seems noisy and overpriced.

We just returned from a stay at the Glacier Park Lodge. The room was VERY basic with wood floors and a shower so small that you couldn't raise your arms to wash your hair. As far as the thin walls that I had read about, we requested a fan because our third floor room was about 95 degrees with one small window that opened, and the fan did help to deaden the noise of the rooms around us. Our room had three windows and only one had opened and/or had a screen. The beds were comfortable, though, and the amenities in the room were very basic.
